re: Do you give a two week notice or just walk out?

In my business we get walked out the day we quit. They don’t want us managing a book if we are leaving. (I’m a nat gas trader)

This isn't really true unless you work for a very small private organization.

Any US corporation of size (over 500 total employees) with an in-house HR department will give you notice, severance, etc.

Many employers hang on to employees even when times are tough and they themselves are making nothing.

So frick you for walking out on someone that supports you

I worked in a restaurant for a really abusive chef. I put up with it for months. Finally, he gave me some crap about setting really stupid about 7:00 on a Friday night, full dining room. I drug up and quit right there. He said “you’re not gonna give me 2 weeks’ notice?” I said “yeah... look around for the next two weeks. You’ll notice I won’t be here”

Only time I’ve ever not given notice. Place went out of business less than a year after I left. All the employees last couple of pay checks bounced. Dude was a piece of shite.
