I'm absolutely nostalgic about it. Alphalfa, blockbuster, etc. I'm not nostalgic about having to rewind VHS and Betamax tapes or remembering to return the "New Releases" within like 24 hours. I wonder if libraries will eventually go the way of video rental stores as suggested in Sci-fi flicks.

I still buy blurays of movies that I love. And every now and then I'll buy a dvd when it's on sale for $4-5 at Target if it's a movie I wouldn't mind owning.
My husband and I both own a lot of dvds/blurays. We got rid of all the cases years ago and just keep them in those large dvd/cd binders. Less cluttered looking and takes up less space.

Tons of new music is being pressed in vinyl, and older music is being re-released on vinyl, and the number of turntable manufacturers keeps growing. I don't know what the age spread really is, but my 22 year old and a lot of his friends collect and listen to vinyl LPS. Check out the audiophile thread on the music board.

Yes.
My movie collection (DVD, mostly, and Blu Ray) was once my pride and joy.
Now...I only buy between 1-3 movies a year. And it's usually at Christmas.
I would spend time getting movies to complete my collection on Amazon and in sales in person...there's no drive there any more. Criterion Collection of __Title__? Who cares!

I have a kid, so I still buy Blurays. I make sure I buy the ones with digital copies though. I figure if I'm going to pay $19 for a digital copy, I'd rather have the physical disc to go along with it.
Been slowly but surely ripping DVDs to digital. It's a time consuming process but I'm over 100 movies now. Beats having to flip through dvd pages hunting for movies.

Maybe the difference is if you consider what you have to be a collection. I have a very extensive music collection, mostly vinyl and CDs, a very few select tapes. I do download the stuff that ends up being too much of a bother to track down, but when it comes to my "pet" music I MUST NOT ever be without, there's never been the first impulse for me to get rid of any of it. I think I would rather cut off my arm. I have slowed way down on buying CDs, but I still buy them when I want one.
I'm eventually going to come up with a way to condense the displacement down by doing away with the CD jewel cases. I'm not in a big hurry to do that though.
