The music which talks about raping women and murdering people? What do you think

This is EXACTLY what every rap song talks about fwiw.

Let me ask a simple question. When you're a few drinks in at a wedding and ready to party are you running to the floor to dance when a Led Zeppelin song comes on or when Back that arse Up comes on?

It's a trick question. No one plays Kashmir at a fricking wedding. EVERYONE plays Back That arse Up.

it all started with disco

Yeah, Disco was a bastardization of Soul music. it took all the meaning out and made it something chicks and guys who don't like chicks were into.

Hair metal wasn't much better though it wasn't as crude as modern stuff.

Did you mean to say "running for the door" when Back That arse Up comes on?

Of course. That goes for everything in life. But don't sit there and act like your arse has never been shaking on a wedding dance floor to rap music unless you're over 60.

I'd be getting down to Zepplin. Rap is shitty.

But back in the 80's there were still people who danced to rock.

I don't think either. People that emulate artists or look up to celebrities either have no religion or strong parental leadership in their families. It all comes back to both the strength of the parental figures and the core of the individual.

Nobody plays Back That arse Up either. Wtf is this high school prom?

I know plenty of people who play things like Van Morrison where you can actually dance to real music.

It's just music.

Music reflects culture much more than it affects it.

Riiiiiiight. It's only been played at weddings for the last 20 years.

This is where the OT likes to fall down the rabbit hole. No one is saying you can't dance to Earth, Wind & Fire, Al Green, The Spinners, etc. But acting like rap music doesn't have a place in culture is ignorant at best.

I have never heard that played at a wedding and I’m 25 years old and have a lot of friends that listen to rap constantly.

So all of your 25 year old friends are getting married and not playing any rap music at their weddings? That's what you're saying?

I’m not saying it doesn’t have a place in culture, because it clearly does.

What I’m saying is it’s absolute shite. And its popularity is a great reflection on how shitty our culture has gotten when rap is the most famous genre of music in America.

What I’m saying is is that I’ve never heard that particular song at a wedding. Not saying that I’ve never heard rap at a wedding.
