Eh, I'm not reading this whole thread. The quote appeared slightly out of context.

NDT, while an atheist, has usually appeared uninterested in the debate about the existence of God. He'll argue points where some religious people discount science, but overall his take seems reasonable.

Your beliefs are supported by the Bible. The story of creation in the Bible talks of what occurred in days, but what exactly are "days"? We don't know what of the Old Testament are literal accounts, what are parables, and what were originally Hebrew poems. The Bible is most definitely NOT a science or history book. The Bible is about The Who, not The How.

Hmmm, that's weird, because for over a thousand years it was very much about the how. What's changed?
Oh yeah, society created a new schema for the Bible to fit in because it's the only way to reconcile it with the beliefs of the time.

There were a lot more things than the Bible that were misunderstood 1500 years ago. What's your point?

It could be "it just is" just as easily as there needing to be a first cause. In fact "it just is" is a simpler conclusion and probably more reliable. But no one knows.
Nope, doesn't work. If it 'is', it requires a cause....except for the first cause.

So some of the stuff in the Bible is just plain ole made up?

Big bang. What caused the big bang? No idea. Over time, living beings were formed. How? No idea. Over time, animals (humans included) evolved. When we die, that's it. Darkness. Just like every other animal that has ever died on this planet. I don't think human beings are special in that we go to a special place after death while every single other living creature just dies and that's it.
Something cause the big bang. Which lies outside natural laws.

It depends somewhat on the definition of "truth" in this instance.
For example, many scholars outright discredit the first 12 chapters of Genesis as being Jewish oral traditions of the creation of the world. There may be philosophical truths in these stories, but they are not "facts" in the way we view them today.

No, there are many parables to help people 2000 years ago understand who God is and how he works in your life.

No,thus the term "first cause".

Ok. I didn't think you could choose to believe some stuff and not others.

Whatever, there's no point in this. You just want to ridicule and not listen.
