I do this but the checker ends up putting something like two items in each of the dinky plastic bags they use so it doesn't matter that much.

I was an old school paper bag bagboy, then checker back in the day.

We used to have to ring up prices and, get this, calculate the sales tax in our heads. I shudder to think the average checker trying that today.

I think this may be life changing. I'll report back next time I go grocery shopping

Wow. Frick that

Btw, a psa: you can swipe your card while the checking is still going on. I know everyone doesn't realize this but it drives me crazy like they just broke out a checkbook when people don't do it

a pet peeve of mine

Another is the people who buy things for a couple of their friends and MUST ring up each order separately, with associated fiddling around for payment materials. If you are shopping for a friend and y'all can't let each other slide for a quarter or 38 cents here and there y'all aren't close enough to be shopping for each other.

I can't commit. I've never not paid for my groceries and left with nothing, but I want to know the total first before I swipe, even though it wouldn't matter. Actually kinda weird now that I think about it

Well you can wait for it to ask you if the amount is ok

But I've never encountered needing to change the amount

Me either. Ever. I've never been "uh, take that bacon off." I just like seeing the total before I fully commit I guess.

You are right about that. I was checking out one day and a friend yelled over to me to ask why I was working for the store.

yes, i worked in a grocery store as a kid and was taught to bag "like" things together. It was a lot easier when the customers put the stuff on the belt with a lil organization. That stuck with me and i have passed it on to my kids.

If I put them on myself then I put frozen, boxed, soft and drinks with like items and eggs and bread last.

If at Costco, they do it for me.
