re: Do white people assume you're racist because you're white too?

I keep a picture on my phone of my neighbor's wife and me in a selfie of us that I took at their house for a party they were throwing. Her husband is white and she's black (and nice looking, too). I also took one of me and her son, who plays on the same lacrosse team as my son.

When people start throwing that shite around when I'm there, I just pull out my phone, "Hey, have I ever shown you a pic of my wife?" "Hey, check out my son in his lacrosse uniform."

Shuts up that crap fast.

Is there are reason (such as it would offend an account and the company might lose it) where you cannot say "I understand your point (even if you don't) but would you mind not using racial slurs here?" You can add if you want "It doesn't offend me but it might offend my co-workers."

Or, ask your employer how to handle it. It is a sticky situation. Don't want to lose a customer but your co-workers shouldn't have to hear someone blasting out the n-word.

Your black co-workers may not be as sensitive as you think. Once saw a lawyer use the term "n rig" in front of a black sheriff's Captain. Lawyer said I'm sorry and the Captain said "it's ok." The lawyer wasn't fired by the client so I guess it was ok.

In the O&G Industry it is the norm with old country baws to young kids straight out of college. That goes for higher ups in the office to the lower level labor workers. It may not be as blatant as the OP but I hear shite like that all the time in offices but these are big offices and you can't hear things from across the hall. The thing is most older people don't give a frick so I don't know why so many people are surprised by this.
