We propped up many dictators as long as they weren't communist for decades. Again, it was kind of like choosing the lesser of two evils. It sucks but, Saudi Arabia has long appeared to be the lesser of two evils between them and the likes of Iran. (they're both terrible IMO)
But both the CIA and the FBI had plenty of information on the 9/11 hijackers and that something was about to happen. Many estimate that it was the lack of information sharing between the two agencies (that had legal reasons not to as well as a long-storied rivalry between the two) that allowed the attack to happen.

Alright so the planes were landed on an air strip and then had to be destroyed and all the passengers killed and then they flew drones into the WTC.
When they could have just flown the planes with the passengers on them into the WTC to destroy everything.

I don't think the government was involved. It was mainly intelligence agencies and foreign governments. Bush may have knew. Cheney probably knew.
