Spinoff: My 25 yr old house is wired for landline which I no longer use. Are there any suggestions for what this prewired system can be used for in the present day?
Yes, you can use it as a pull string to run some CAT6.

I have seen a outlet but I don’t have a clue where the landline phones are located - probably a landfill

The cost wasn’t 10x, sorry to disappoint you. It was a couple hundred more or the difference between the 2 cat wire costs since cat6 cable was already included in the builders budget Read my comment above On my thinking as to why. It’s not about what I’m using now it’s being ready for what may come in 5, 10 or 15 years from now. For an extra couple hundred dollars literally, I figured it was worth it. It was so small in retrospect to the cost of everything involved with building. It’s also a selling point later down the road should we ever decide to sell.

10x was a slight exaggeration, but it is roughly 5X the cost per foot.

Yeah that's just a reflection of the fact that the material cost is small relative to the labor to install it.

That's why every single build goes over budget. All the little things add up to a big thing.

Did you run the cat8 inside conduit?
