Unfortunately Mardi Gras falls on the same week as President's Day next year, so it'll be very busy the weekend before Mardi Gras through Tuesday. Lightens up a bite on Wednesday.

Went for the week during Mardi Gras. Still very busy and long lines. 10-15 years ago maybe this was the best time for Disney. Now seems like everyone from Lafayette to Biloxi is in Orlando during this time.

But, I did find Universal wasn't crowded during this time and lines were a lot shorter.

Last time we went at Thanksgiving and it was just a windbreaker/short sleeve and pants most days.

Then you should know that there aren't two lines to choose the "left" (one is now the 'fastpass' line) and you can't just save fastpasses for when it's above 45 minutes.

Our first day there was the Saturday of Marathon weekend and it was pretty crowded. The following week was the start of Summer Holiday or some shite for South America so I think the entire continent was there. It was really crowded and none of them knew wtf they were doing with the magic bands. As for the weather, it was cold and rainy the entire time.

January is actually one of the dryer months for Florida. That sucks.

I know. My wife and her cousin picked that week because it was suppose to be one of the better weeks to go. It was the polar opposite.

My point was don't use them early.....We used our FP's later in the day when you really needed them.

When first going into Magic Kingdom...we head to the left and rear of park. Thunder Mountain didn't reach 45+ minute wait times until after 11:00am.

Do: research and plan early, but keep your plan flexible. Book your resort ASAP, then check places like touring plans or easy WDW to see crowd calendar predictions to book dining at 180 days and FP+ at 60 days

Don't: go with unrealistic expectations. Disney, any day of the year can be fun. Sometimes that means only going to park in the morning, or at night or not at all. The key is to take your group and what you guys like to do, the days you are going and make a plan that fits. If you want short lines, don't spend all morning whoofing down Mickey Waffles at a character breakfast. If you want to party late at night at your resort or have late dinner then try and do shows and things like that during the day with headlining attractions just before the park closes.

Any time is a good time, you just have to have a plan.

Any line that isn't a ride

Lines for meals

Entering any shows (always move as far left as possible)

Or just don't....I couldn't care less

I would call her a count but she probably doesn't have the depth or the warmth.

This is always good advice. I'm amazed every time we go by the amount of "mappers" that are always blocking walkways with their group of 15 huddled around the one person with the map. Those people always get to the foot of Main St, stop for 20 minutes and go right to Tomorrowland.

FWIW, the best "turnstile" at Hollywood Studios is actually all the way to the right. People avoid that area because they can't see that the Guest and Cast Member is actually for guests AND cast members.

But, the center is almost always assuredly the worst. People have an inexpiable desire to find a line, then wait in it.

Booking your FP+ early really only benefits you at Magic Kingdom and only if you are not park hopping and even then, you still probably don't want to book anything before like 10 a.m.

They still have turnstiles at HS? I thought they were getting rid of all of those with the MBs and moving to the light-up mickey heads.

They did. You can still use your regular credit card looking ticket or magic band to get in at the Mickey heads though.
