re: Do people that work atypical schedules not have the "Monday" effect?

My "Monday" is a 12 hour day.
Meetings on Monday is the best time because everyone is warming up to the week again, and what better time to plan than then. It's the what, why, and how and the do.
Imagine your Monday where you have to talk to people for the first time in 3 days and you have to deliver a presentation that makes sense on subjects they don't understand yet.

didn't know you were in school. I think I would prefer work 3 in a row but you would know better

I'll likely go back to 3 in a row once I'm done. It is nicer to have a bigger block of days off.
Working 3 12s in a row you don't have much time for anything but work, sleep, shower, eat and maybe a workout. I would get so behind on my schoolwork for the week(as well as household chores, laundry, grocery shopping, etc). Also....work sucks really bad right now(many nurses are leaving or have stated they would love to leave if they could). It's mentally/emotionally/ and physically exhausting when you work several 12s in a row. I can manage work easier when I'm only working a shift or two before I have more days off to look forward to.

Seems like you're very busy.

My dad used to work 7 12s in a row but then had 7 off. He loved the schedule

That's the suck.
Although I have had a few like that where I ended up feeling better off from the added "wake-up" stress.

I could see that being appealing for other 12 hour shift type jobs.
With floor nursing...it's pushing limits. We deal with a lot of high-strung, trashy, crazy parents(esp at the hospital I work at). The strain can be from the physical work, but most of the time it's mentally from dealing with crazy parents/horrible situations and having to bite your tongue and never say what you truly feel and basically take being verbally abused by them so you can care for their kid. Knowing I had to care for the same crazy family 7 12 hour shifts in a row would turn me into an alcoholic

On the plus side, you make it through Monday and the rest of the week is a breeze...

Not as much as other posters. I'm not a parent...yet. I realize parenting is on a whole other level of chaos and being busy.
School is keeping me busier than I would like...but it's only temporary.

This is the closest answer to the OP's original question so far. Some Mondays were like this for me but others were different in that bosses had 2 days to think up shite they wanted us to do. Mostly stupid shite but after working a quiet Sunday as we sometimes did we dreaded Monday. As one guy said the bosses came in monday morning with nose to the ground and dick in hand.
Short version: we always dreaded Mondays.

My ex worked 5 12's one week and 2 the next. Not sure if that is still a popular nursing schedule.

I have two kids 5 and under. Mondays are glorious.

I think it will vary with the hospital and unit really.
Most hospitals I have worked in have 3 12 schedules for floor nurses. Nurses that work in the OR or ER or other parts of the hospital(non floor nursing) may have completely different schedules to fit the needs of their unit.
Back in my OLOL days I worked 3 12s one week; 4 12s the next for a few years.

afternoons and nights more than Monday mornings
I don't work a typical m-f 9 to 5, so I don't get a case of the Mondays. However, when I was in school I felt the exact same about Sunday's... Late afternoon and evening was so depressing cuz I knew a whole week of school was upon me.

For me Mondays fly by and are generally easy. It's Tuesdays that are always slowwwwwww and still so far from the next weekend that it begins to wear on me. I start to get out of the funk around midday Thursday.

I don't really have a job, at least not one that generates any real income, and I still get bummed out when my alarm clock goes off on Monday morning.
Posted on 2/29/16 at 1:36 pm to yellowfin
That's the shift I work, and being home every day is just icing on the cake.
To answer the OP's question, no I don't get the Mondays, but do have shitty days when machinery decides I'm going to have a shitty day.

I can have multiple Monday's a week with my work schedule.
I hate each day of work equally.
