One of the adoptive parents of the OT Parvo Pups did one one their puppy. She shared results and it was interesting to see the lineage of them back to the Great Grandparents.

If I remember correctly:

German Shepherd with a German Shepherd
Labrador with a Mixed Breed
American Foxhound with a Mixed Breed
Mixed Breed with a Mixed Breed

Pudge is a perfect mix of Lab and GS
Stella looks predominantly like the American FH with Lab and some GS coloring in her spots. Her coat is 80% white.

No harm in it if you have the money to do it.

If you breed pure bred dogs, the AKC demands DNA testing in certain situations. After a sire produces, I think it is seven litters, it has to be DNA certified. If the stud is over 10 years old it must be DNA certified.
Too bad it isn't required for humans. Some of the geneticly transmitted diseases could be predicted or eliminated.

My dog loves people. She loves loves loves people. She sees someone new out in public, her tail starts wagging and she just wants to run up and lick them.

Now at home, she barks her head off at the slightest noise outside. In public, she is in heaven when someone lets her walk up and lick their hand

Bought a canine Ancestry DNA kit for my mother for Christmas because she's into that kind of shite. Was one of the most bogus purchases ever.

My cousin spent 5000 bucks to save his little mop dog when it had bacteria in its blood. Not the move I would have made.

Never mind the show people, sporting dogs it's a big deal weeding out genetic defects like DM. If you're going to spend a lot of money on pup and even more training it you want the genetic odds in your favor.

Do people really care about their dog's lineage?

Anyone every do this, and is it really worth it?

Mine was a mix and everyone that saw her speculated what the mix was. Why did I do it? Pure curiosity and the price was worth me getting the answer.
