should have maybe tried to keep it more of a secret if you suspected you had some family/friends that were prone to invite themselves and then bitch about choices you made for your wedding

Just say you are unable to make it and send a nice gift. Seems to be the trend these days.

I knew these two lovebirds in Scranton, PA, who decided to have their wedding at Niagara Falls. It was a destination wedding, but, not too far away.

There was good stuff on TV that weekend, so, I didn't go.

Saturday in October? Who does that? Don't they understand that their wedding conflicts with football games?

Honestly we really didn't think that would be the case. Our parents even planned a reception back in Alabama after we returned (which we did send out invites for) and the ceremony was going to be live streamed because the place where we got married knows it's a destination wedding spot, so there really was no reason for people to go. I wouldn't say I don't appreciate that some people felt the need to attend, but we really did go out of our way to try not to make them feel obligated to be there.

If it wasn’t for my almost 90 year old Grandmother who refuses to fly (and honestly is in no shape to travel), we’d do a destination wedding and just have a local reception.

But we wouldn’t expect anyone else to tag along unless they wanted to.

I did have a friend who had to pay close to 5k to attend her sister’s destination and I do think that’s a bit much. Especially since she and her husband really couldn’t afford it and had to finance/go into debt for it. Gotta know your crowd if you’re planning a wedding you want folks to realistically attend.
