So did we which usually led to someone throwing down. I hung out with older kids, always had to prove myself. If you played contact sports as a kid, you ended up in a fight at some point

No. They don't.

A good friend of mine is a Juvenile probation officer. A lot of the kids on his caseload aren't even kids who have been in real trouble. Most of them are mandated to receive probation because they were in a fight at school. We're talking about 13-14 year old kids.

Obviously school violence shouldn't be perpetuated, and some detention isn't going to do much but putting kids on probation because they got in a fight at school? We're doing a fine job of making our kids a bunch of pussies.

We used to have gentleman duels with pistols and swords at my elementary school.

My son is 17. He, nor anyone in his group of friends have been in a fight. He plays baseball and played 2 years of football, too. In fact, only one fight has occurred at his school in the 4 years he's been there. Now, this is a Catholic school, so take it for what it's worth.

I went to public schools, and it was "poppin" pretty often. In high school we'd meet at some old dirt pits. Good times.

My kids went through 8 years of a catholic grade school. Not one fight ever.
Of course 98% of the kids there have parents who are still married, no tats or strange piercings on the parents, and probably 80% or college educated. Probably has a little to do with it.

When I was in junior high and high school we had fights every day at school. At least one, usually multiple. Usually over something stupid. The "fight fight fight " would last longer than the actual fight.

We also had a parking lot full of pickup trucks with hunting rifles hanging on gun racks on the back window and not once did anyone go out and get one of those guns and shoot anyone. You just threw some punches, took some punches, and moved on.

We had 10 or so fights a school year when I was a kid. Of course more than half of them were the typical black vs white crap.

Sorry you're a pussy that got beat up and never learned to stand up for yourself, so you rely on your assailant obeying the rules as your only form of protection.

ETA: Violence isn't good, but it's part of the world we live in. It's been part of documented history since the beginning of man kind. Closing your mind and pretending it isn't out there does nothing but make you a victim.

My school was 100% white when I was in high school. Things have changed around here greatly since then, and there are gang affiliations in the local schools, but we don't see many fights as we did in my day when it was redneck on redneck violence.
