excellent post. very good, real information. I hope someone reads it.
i know someone that hid vodka, even put it in water bottles to appear they were drinking water.
it was horrid on the family. he even said he quit when he didn't, cut down drinking, and so on... it was all BS-- and he could fool someone with him nearly 24/7.
a pain at 1AM woke them up. ambulance ride- ulcer burst. testing so high a BAC in the ER they were questioned. when they didn't even appear drunk.
sober now 10 months, the surgeon said they see this every day and if they continue drinking the next ulcers pain would blow out the stomach beyond any good repair, and the pain so bad he has seen them blow their head off.
this is the only way he became sober. alcoholism is the devils spirit in horrid nightmares.
also: a man that many tried to help. he was BAC 196 and killed a 20 year old drinking and driving. he is in prison.
rehab is suggested because heart attacks and seizures can happen in withdrawals.
good for you, stay sober. find a sponsor no matter how prideful you are.

I would call his family to make a primary care provider appt. A good PCP may treat him w/o the expensive rehab. How old is the person?

He's 72.
He either fell asleep for many hours yesterday of (his words) "blacked out".
He says he's not interested in AA because he mostly drinks with his women friends and the AA meetings near him were all male or all female. Is this true?
I'm trying to keep him anonymous.

Sometimes I drink too much and tell my awesome stories more than once. It really annoys my wife, but I think my friends just laugh and say "That FTT for ya!! Ha-Ha"

It's called wet brain.
Sometimes it's non-reversible, but most of the time the person just needs to dry out for a few weeks to regain better cognitive function and memory.
That's what I've seen anyways.
