The reality of the situation is that this was a long time coming for DKE. They lived off of their "legend" for far too long. When I was at LSU, they would get the nerdy, druggie NOLA guys or the guys who's dads were DKE's in the 80s.

Of the guys that were in my rush year that I know, 3 are dead, and another 5-8 are serious drug users.

This is a sad reality, but they should have cleaned house a long fricking time ago and started over.

Edit after reading about Gaston. I know him. He's very smart and was a very good wrestler at Jesuit. Sad to see that this is what happened. But people live and die by the choices they make.

Serious drug users

More or less serious than all the drug users enrolled at LSU who aren’t in fraternities and get absolutely no criticism or media attention?

Those guys in the pictures from the story look like complete dorks, pussies.

Why would anyone submit to the following to befriend these dorks?

Some victims claimed they were forced to lie on broken glass while they were urinated on and sprayed with hoses.
Sounds pretty perverted to me.

“ The cultural shift that is occurring at LSU “ is the shift from the ancient wisdom that young men benefit from sowing their oats between the ages of 18-22 ( when they are then required to be full- fledged adults) to they need to be indoctrinated ASAP to be nice Progressive boys who do as they are told.
Uhh, dudes who piss on other dudes have never been culturally acceptable and should be shunned. That is not sowing oats, that's something people need to be kneecapped for.

This is a really good point.

I guess what I meant was comparatively amongst fraternities at LSU, these guys were absurd. Yeah, you had the Sigma Chi stuff a few years ago which was terrible and we all know what happened.

But something was seriously up with DKE. It wasn't just a few guys that ruined it for everyone. It was the opposite. It was a few guys holding it together and the rest of the chapter trying to ruin it for everyone.

They were druggie weirdos when I was there from 2005-2009 but they had a few guys holding it together and keeping the culture together. I can see how it slid to this though

100%

Such degenerate, rotten and filthy behavior is a sign of cultural decline and an embarrassment to civilized and polite society.

If that's what a fraternity wants to do, then they don't belong on a college campus being officially recognized by the school and supported with our tax dollars.

It seems completely outlandish, no?

You seem quick to judge these boys, what proof do you have that these ridiculous things occurred?

Did they? I didn't think most were from Nola.

Sort of like targeting a group of young people that you don’t like (or know) on the internet to draw attention to yourself, with nothing but a newspaper story and a handful of flimsy charges to go by at that.

How many of these boys were charged for simply being officers of the fraternity at the time of the alleged acts?

The Real Animal House video which was a 10-15 minute awesome video of DKE life in the early 80’s has been removed/disabled on YouTube. If anyone could repost, please do. This is a missing national treasure.

That’s just incorrect. Did you have guys dying of drug overdoses when you were there? And I’m not talking about random I’m talking about 3 from the same class in a span of 2 years? If so then why on earth would you want to be a part of that.

Zero

My fraternity was on the arse end of similar frickery and I know better than to rush to judgement. I will be the first to condemn these young men as criminals if they are indeed sentenced as such in the court of actual law and not public opinion.
