Have things really changed so much in just a few years (relatively speaking)? The one time we went to Disney was in 1996 and I don't remember seeing hardly any people on scooters there. I was 12 years old, though, and just might not've noticed.
I have sympathy for people who want to enjoy a vacation with their families and yet aren't able to walk all day. Still, my grandmother had to have her left leg amputated in 1979 because of cancer. She lived another 25 years with only one leg and always used crutches until she had a mild heart attack and had a catheter/IV line thing inserted under one arm in the hospital and she couldn't put pressure on it with her crutch for a while. Gradually she lost the arm strength ot use them and then, and ONLY then, did she get an electric scooter. She was almost 80 by that point, too. She actually needed a scooter--not like the really fat people at Disney.

Not everyone on the scooters in Disney is fat and lazy. Some of them have the scooters for medical reasons you may not be able to see, but more and more companies have made it easier to get one and with the internet, you can find a company willing to deliver one to your resort and pick it up at the end of your stay.
It's not hard to walk 6+ miles a day while at Disney, and there are alot of people who simply can't do that due to age or some legitimate medical condition.
Before the easy accessibility of these companies was so common, say 20 years ago, it was much harder for people like your grandmother and my grandfather (double leg amputee) to visit WDW with their families.
It's the same as handicapped parking passes, food stamps, welfare, etc, etc etc. On the surface these are good programs designed to help those truly in need of assistance, but like with everything else in this country there are way too many people looking to abuse the system with little concern for how it might effect anyone else.

exactly , but its shitty that you have a bunch of lazy people that take advantage of things that are in place to help people that need it....but its not limited to fat asses at Disney , its a huge part of the society we live in .....
from government assistance to having a handicap tag when you don't need one , its pathetic but we live in a get over scam riddled me first selfish society.....

Even worse than the scooters is the abundance of fat asses at Disney have made the water parks a nightmare. Imagine that pic above with those two lardasses in swimsuits...

And the obnoxious "Happy Birthday" every 2 minutes from a cast member.
Last year, I had a first visit button on my backpack that was left over from our daughters first trip. Well, I was wearing a shirt from one of the Disney marathons I did and got to talking to someone in line about Disney and my previous trips came into question.
She then mentioned something like, "Oh, well I saw your button and assumed this was your first visit. You know, you might want to take it off to not give people the wrong impression."
It took me like 5 minutes to realize what the hell she was even talking about, then after that all I could do was laugh.

That happened to me at Coral Reef.
It happened to is a Coral Reef as well. You can damn near eat at a signature for what Coral Reef costs too. Even going during free dining we didn't have to wait anywhere else. We actually got in before our reservation times. It poured while we were at AK so we went to Yak and Yeti 45 minutes prior to our reservation just to get out of the rain. They went out of their way to go ahead and seat us and the service and food were excellent

Not going back till September,
Are y'all going to go to MNSSHP? We went last year and had a great time. No kids so we skipped the first parade and rode virtually everything walk on. After the fireworks the park emptied and we were able to watch the second parade sitting on the curb in front of Casey's with zero crowd.

Wow this thread grew some legs....pun intended.
I'll gladly say that I didn't see as many fatties on scooters today.

Oh and I saw a really mentally handicapped kid today and they let him and his parents skip to the front. I've got no problem with this. These people have more hardship than I could fathom. I'd let them have free reign to anything in the park. For God's sake frick the lazy fatties though.

Yeah...the wife and I went last year (weekend of the LSU/UGa game) for MNSSHP and Food & Wine. This year, we are staying off-site 9/5-9/13 and taking the little one.
Then, heading back the day before Thanksgiving and staying for 9 nights (11/26 - 12/5) at the Beach Club. Doing the MVMCP for that trip.

MNSSHP is a great value and the crowd really thins out. That time in September should be really slow, at least historically. It is the slowest time of year along with early January. I don't think MNSSHP will start until later in September than 9/13.
Thanksgiving will probably be busy but I was there this past year for the Wed-Sun the following week. Found it to be busier than September but really not bad at all. We had MVMCP as a game time decision and the tickets sold out just after lunch so we missed out. I believe it was a Thursday.
