Prenups can do more than just protecting the assets you have going into marriage

Uh no, it is a fairly easy process when two adults mutually agree to split on their terms. Attorneys at that point won't waste their breath on "entitlements" if the two adults are mature about their split. It's usually when the spouse decides to be immature or rightfully so seek entitlements when something bad hits the fan. I've seen it happen all the time where a spouse just wants to leave the marriage and is fine with walking away with nothing financially and starting over.

I think my wife would have a right to half our retirement if we divorced.

Doesn't mean what I described does not occur often. You are more likely to hear about the dramatic splits, than the mature/mutual splits.

she has the family money but inheritance isn't included in community property so that's no reason for a prenup

To protect yourself?

If yall both have no plans to frick each other over, why not sign the papers? If anything, those papers are exactly that

I just don't think I would have to have protection...

Don't think I need it

Not telling anyone that they shouldn't, just saying that I don't feel as if I need it

I know you think I'm naive and I might be. My wife might turn into a money grabbing bitch in 10 years. But I doubt it.

No. And I owned my house before we were married. If we divorced tomorrow I'd let her stay there. We have kids and no way I'd kick them out of their home. We have other property I could stay in.
And I'm not naive, this is my second marriage so I know how divorces can get.
