You know what I love about all these hate threads?

Guys like me that don't mind the state are raking in mega bucks with good jobs because all the competition is leaving the state.

I feel like it's the opposite for me. Moving away made me take notice of a lot of things LA needs to improve on that I never realized living there my entire life.

i experienced both. It definitely highlighted Louisiana's flaws but I also missed the things I liked more than i expected.

Yep. Only after spending a year not finding a job. Looked in Dallas and had a new job in a month.

Yea but just for a couple hours to pick up a few things at Specs in Beaumont; does that count?

It is hard to quantify the value of one's support system. It is hard to put a dollar price on seeing your friends and family every day. It's difficult to monetize the feeling of knowing that everywhere you go every single day you will interact with people you have known for your entire life. There is a certain connectivity to the land, a deep-rooted belonging that comes with living in such a place. It is something most people from outside of Louisiana do not understand until they spend time here. Most people in the North move where their jobs are. Their home towns mean little to them. They're just the location of their dad's job. In Louisiana, it's a part of you. The very soil beneath your feet is a nearly sacred birthrite. For outsiders, it is impossible to truly understand. For those who were raised in it, it often goes unnoticed and unappreciated.

This is some horseshite. It's hard to believe anyone actually believes this.

Nope. Left before finishing college. Never looked back. Haven't regretted it for a second

Graduated UNO in 1988. Got a job with DOD in N. VA. in 1990.

When I arrived in N. VA. in 9/1990 from NOLA, first thing I noticed was a lack of black people. Secondly, very clean area compared to NOLA and beautiful countryside.

Being from NOLA, I was used to buying and opening a beer while waiting in line at the Time Saver. Well, that shite doesn't fly in VA. The Indian guy working the 7/11 threw a fit and told me I had to leave or he would call the police.

Also, the cost of living was close to twice as high in VA. However, I wish I was still there. So nice and so much to do.

Big downside, the women in NOLA are gorgeous compared to the women in VA.

Bottom line N. VA. > NOLA.

Actually, it's a little more like being a regular at the bar from Cheers. Everyone knows you as soon as you walk in...everywhere. Everyone rallies to help anyone in need. They build each other up.

I moved to Cali for my first job out of LSU. There really wasn't much opportunity in my field in Louisiana in 1990 (Landscape Architecture). And I'm not from Louisiana so nothing keeping me there.

I miss Louisiana, but I but I married a Mississippi girl who doesn't want to leave and I own my own business here. So doubtful I would ever move back.

This is a thread for people that left LA for greener grass.

Do you plan on ever going back to LA for an extended period of time? Or at all?
