This is the weekly OT insecure guy dump on women thread.
TBF we'd need 10 more threads of woman-bashing to offset our ladies' 1st hour of brunch

Hallmark movies are basically the same.
Lady gets annoyed with her husband/BF who is busting his arse to make sure they’re taken care of and ends up banging some dude in her small home town who has nothing going for him.

This was during the whole stupid “Eat Pray Love” period where you had a wave of chick lit books praising the liberating effects of divorce. I remember married women gushing about that book and wondered if their husbands knew what was going on.

Are they? I don’t generally watch them but I understood most Hallmark movies to be single lady buys a Christmas tree farm in a small town and falls in love with the rugged farmer next door or some shite like that.

The movie Waiting to Exhale falls in this perfectly. It’s a bunch of women bitching about not being able to find a good man while they’re sleeping with married men and not changing the type of guy they’re attracted to. Then bitching about all men being pigs.
It’s sort of a documentary on women being stupid, making stupid decisions and blaming men for it.

I subscribe to several print and ebook catalogs, and I’ve noticed a shift in themes in the romance section over the last decade. It went from the old “Boy woos girl on the farm/ranch and happily ever after” to “ Fate blesses Single mom to find cowboy/entrepreneur/adventurer to marry her and be a father for her child”.

Wife was telling me the other day, the girls at her office were talking about new romance novels/smut is straight up incest porn. Step father/step brother. That kind of thing. Hilarious.

Well, at least they’ve moved past vampire/Bigfoot/Cryptid rape fantasies.

That's prolly the catalyst. Just funny how it's lock step with rot gut porn trends. You don't think of smut novels as being down in the gutter like that.

Women love penis. It’s amazing but thankfully it’s true. They need that shaft.

I think the larger point is it isn't just centric to female-marketed writing. I've read a fair amount of male-marketed fantasy at this point and it can get very weird.
Adult marketed anime is another that can lean in weird ways like that.
I've also seen some female-centric stuff called smut when it's not.

Fantasy genre that's typically marketed to males?
Stuff like ASOIAF (George RR Martin), Wheel of Time (Jordan), The Stormlight Archive (Sanderson), The Kingkiller Chronicles (Rothfuss), etc.
