Did y'all know Hologram projectors are out already?

Found this out yesterday. First thought just an odd trade show item. By the end of the day I was buying one to test. I haven't seen one in person. Though if they look good I can see a whole advertisement industry of installing these at commercial places.
Only issue is they seem easy to break. That's why I want to see how they work behind plexiglass.
I'm envisioning one in the back of the car to wave to people who let me in and to flip off the assholes.

always thought a hologram christmas tree would be great. easy to put up/take down. no mess like a real tree. easy to store.

Help me Obi Wan Kenobi, you’re my only hope...

Looks like it’s not quite there yet, honestly. It would get attention grabbing, though.

Good to know. Those Jedi fricks have no idea what's coming their way.

I saw one at a trade show in March and they are 100% as cool as you think they would be. Stopped me in my tracks and took a minute to figure out what I was looking at. Putting one in the back of your van window with customizable messages would be awesome.

I'd rather put my money toward a sex robot

These are definitely cool, but the big difference between them and the sci-fi holograms we've all fantasized about being real is that the image doesn't depend on viewing angle.
If you think about it, this is basically conventional display, just super skinny and spinning so fast that you can't see it. Not being able to see the display is a cool effect, but other than that, it still has all the limitations of a typical 2D planar display.
The holy grail of holograms would be a full, 3d representation in space instead of just 2d projection of a 3d image. That way, if there were a holographic image of a person in the center of a room, someone standing in front could look into the person's eyes, someone standing to the side would see the person in profile, and someone standing in the back could check out dat arse, etc.

I want a really big one.
Someone tailgates and I send Jaws out after them.

I think that would require highly specialized lasers and we just aren't quite there.
I did like the concept in "Ready Player One(book)"
Where displays were projected into your retina using targeted lasers.
