Found this image while looking at another image someone posted on the tech board. This must have hurt.

This is how the head of a spear went through a bone during the Roman Gallic Wars. It still remains in the bone after 2070 years.

That must have been an extremely agonizing death. I mean it would have been practically impossible to remove the spear.

The feel-good part of that story is that the ol' baw rubbed some dirt on it and continued to fight for another twenty years.

They also figured out how to firmly implant it in the spear as well. Brutal, you may survive the injuring but the infection and pain had to be unbearable.

Absolutely. Even if you were able to remove the spear head, walking would have been next to impossible and infection was not a possibility, but a certainty. Not a good way to go.

Dipping that tip in some fecal matter was a high probability as well as they knew even a flesh wound would lead to slow painful death.

That almost certainly would have been an amputation if the guy survived the initial injury.

You should see the pubic wars with your old lady. Always loud and messy.

Didn’t know they were preforming operations that complex in 58-51 BC. Even if they removed the infection, not a good way to go.

You would think the adversary would rip it out so they could continue to use it?
