Who voted? Citizens never had any voice....the council members were strongly coerced by mitch. I wish there would have been a public vote.

Part of living in a represented Republic I guess.

There would be no movement (good or bad) if we voted on every plaque or trinket in New Orleans.

After the whining you've been doing I would assume the answer is yes.

It's probably true for every single person in the U.S. to some degree. That doesn't mean it's OK to hand-wave the institution in the U.S., but that's a more or less a true fact. Most of the white population in the U.S. is descendant from British, Irish, German, Scandinavian, Slavic, and Italian stock: a good chunk of those populations, especially the working class and poor that migrated to the U.S. in huge numbers during our various waves of migration, were enslaved in large numbers after 1000 AD. Virtually all Hispanic Americans have ancestors who were enslaved by the Spanish or Portuguese at some point.

As evidenced by the lack of concern and public comment these were obviously some obscure trinkets. It seems that it's pretty obvious that items of this magnitude should be put to a public vote. It's folks like you why the politicians are able to run hog wild.

Want me to be truthful? When this shite first started 2 years ago I was pretty pissed about it. Thought it was bullshite.

Compared it to destruction of history and Hitler and everything else I have seen posted in the last two weeks.

Over time I came to peace with it and saw it for what it was. Ignorance fighting ignornace in the political arena.

Mitch played this shite flawlessly. Found the law put in place, decades ago, to go after Liberty Place and timed it perfectly. I refuse to sit here any longer and give them the satisfaction of frustration or anger to a situation which I can't control. They won this round.

Don't forget the history being made right now though. Because no telling how it could turn around in two decades.

No. they come from African American heritage either 2 or 3 generations back

There were many free men of color, particularly in the New Orleans area, who owned slaves. A wealthy black sugar cane plantation owner near New Orleans owned around 100 slaves.

It's about history!

Do you think this would have have happened 50, 40, 30, 20 years ago if Landrieu or someone of his mindset proposed it?????

No, it wouldn't have happened. New Orleans has become an overly liberal city in recent years. The city has had an influx of liberal west coast and east coasters move here since Katrina. Life long resident whites are moving out and the very cultured indginous has and will always stay.
( until the hipster liberal douche bags completely price them out of the housing market)
This new population has stayed giving breeding ground to a special kind of stupidity.
Thus allowing dip shits to make their own rules and change history.

I understand Landrieu is a progressive (haha) what us he going to progress. Schools are cap roads are cap and safety is for shite, crime is out the arse, but it's because wounds didn't heal right because of statues. No is because pussys like him and his liberal finds won't be honest with the people of the city. The city is failing because it's residents are shitty. Schools are failing because the students are shitty and lack of parent involvement because they are shitty. Crime is outrageous because the shitty people can't get jobs because they aren't prepared for basic 8th grade skills much less a real job. And most police don't care they are just trying to get through their shift not getting killed.

But statues caused this!!!!!

If you go back the 6 generations to the Antebellum South of 1830-40 everybody is directly descended from 64 different people, equally.

Anybody saying "Oh no, they don't have any slaveholding ancestory" is full of shite because I can almost guarantee they haven't researched all of their tree

and go back another generation and it is 128 ancestors

That is what makes the ides of reparations absurd on the face of it. The determination of who gets any of that would be the most racist "liberal approved" exercise in the history of man because it would be based on how dark you are.
