Kige is there any way you could do a breaking news video for youtube about this? If it came to fruition you'd be famouser.

.I am just saying your a fricking xenophobe who is dumb if you think terroists are going to waste their time and lives on a fricking walmart.
They have been "wasting their time" on malls and stores in Israel for years now.

I see what you mean. But this implies a lot of guessing on their intentions. They made a lot of mistakes on 9/11. First off, the pentagon was a bad choice. Capital hill would have been much easier to hit - both psychological and damage wise.
Second off, they hit the towers too early in the morning. They obviously did not scout when people came to work and not, as they hit it way too early.
My bet is that they don't really understand america and don't care to learn, much like most of americans and their culture.

Perhaps these two students saw you walk in with your redneck bass pro shirt on and thought you would kill them fr almost taking off your door. Just a thought. Especially if you were eyeballing them and looking for weapons.
Champagne is a college town correct? If so, I think my theory of them maybe having a friend there to pick up or see is a pretty good possibility. The last thing a terrorist would want to do is draw attention to themselves by doing a dry run. They already know people are looking for a reason to harass them.

I'm the white guy walking in with a Bass Pro Shops shirt on, about 10-20 seconds before the Arabs walked in.
Giving todays climate with the war against fundalmentalist Islamic assholes I can see where you might be worried. But trust me when I say that being that "white woman who clutches her purse when a black man walks by" is not going to help our situation.

I know, probably 30-40% of the responses to this will be that I am a nutjob. But, if there is just even a miniscule chance that my reporting this actually stopped a possible terrorist attack, then it is more than worth the criticism I get. If I didn't report this, and several dozen or hundred people got killed in a Walmart somewhere I would never forgive myself.

I think that most likely you were being racist but if you believe it, you have no choice but to report it.

They could only see probably 20% of the people in the store because of the way that the aisles were set up. So MAYBE if they told their friend to meet them at the front this would be a plausible scenario. But why would they be wearing backpacks to go do this? They stepped out of their car, opened the back doors, and put on backpacks. Why do that if you are just going in to see a friend?

The University of Illinois has the highest amount of foreign grad students out of any American college.
Maybe they are doing a paper on Americans and how we racially profile and were performins some field type research? Maybe they were looking around to see the reactions of people when they walked in with backpaks. Either way..........I'd report it.

Look, every day on campus I walk past dozens of Arab students and feel perfectly comfortable. It is the specifics of their behavior here that caused my concern.

It's Al-Queda's new grass roots bombing campaign in champagne. Sweet, hook me up with two tickets.
I still find it hard to believe that we are still at war in Iraq. They have to be importing their insurgents or the U.S. is supplying them. Every Iraqi that I have met, has been a complete fricking coward.

How about this scenario? Two men of middle eastern descent walk into a walmart wearing backpacks as part of a social experiment they are conducting about racial fears in today's america for a sociology class. They then check the internet for any frantic posts about dry runs of terrorist attacks at the walmart in Illinois and boom, we are all fodder for some academic paper. Way to go.
Somebody beat me to it!

I mean that's possible, but to walk in with backpacks and exhibit behavior like that would make their research paper worthless. They would have the problem of endogeneity, i.e. it would be impossible to tell if people's reactions were due to 1) them being Arab or 2) the wearing of backpacks/walking just 20 feet in and turning around.

I don't know man, but I am willing to bet a year of sex that they weren't doing a dry run. These dudes are the smartest most covert operators out there, they wouldn't take a chance on scaring people or raising suspicion. Someone like you just has to make a call and say 2 suspicious looking Arabs wore back packs into wal mart and their house is raided and they are on their way to Cuba tomorrow. And they especially wouldn't take that risk for something as simple as blowing up a wal mart. REITERATE- that would take no planning.

For the record....I don't thinks it's racist at all. People today are so quick to throw that word out there when it has nothing to do with what is going on. The way the world is today, things that have happened inthe past makes us take notice of things like this. It's not racist it's just sad.....sad the world is the way it is.
