In a remote cave somewhere in the Afghan mountains:
Terrorist #1: (Having just perused the O-T Lounge from his new Walmart laptop) I have a new and fresh idea that will strike terror in the hearts of millions in america and bring the economy of the infidel to her knees.
Terrorist #2: What is that?
Terrorist #1: We can buy some backpacks and walk into a Walmart near Chicago. Apparently there is no security. We can cripple the US economy my friend. nd if we get caught, we can say the guy is a racist!

yeah, U.S. terrorists are camera whores. they want to take down iconic infrastructures
exactly

it'd be a terrible strategy to take down a random walmart because it'd be way too difficult to perpetuate small attacks like that to generate a consistent fear
yup
america is WAY too big
hell just take a city like BR that is really big geographically. you could attack 1 area with people getting scared, and you'd prolly feel absolutely safe in the other 85% of BR

SFP, why in the blue hell are you giving the General a hard time over this?
The events as he has laid this out are very suspicious, period. They win by him being a concerned citizen?! Dude, really?

Perhaps you would like to contribute more to the conservation than pointless, inane pictures. I have posted valid counter arguments to your flimsy ones and all you can do is come up with some stupid picture. Jerk.

This would effect the value of people's 401k's and other retirement accounts if they have index based mutual funds or have stock in Wal Mart specifically.
and people still need to buy food and cheap shite
if wal mart's stock goes down, target'ss, albertson's, winn dixie's, etc go up

That would probably happen, but I doubt their stocks would go up by as much as WalMart's went down (in terms of market capitalization).

go to the college drive wal mart sometime
or hell, go to my favorite, the siegen wal mart
this will seem perfectly normal when you look at it in context

Perfectly normal!!??? Wow. I guess i should've waited for them to put on red bandanas and start shouting Allah Ahkbar before I noticed them???

Seriously. How many times have I dropped my wife or mother at the door and driven around for thirty minutes when they said they just needed to run in? People probably thought I was casing the place.

as long as americans need to buy food, the economic impact will be a net 0
that's why attacking perhaps the most fungible of stores is completely retarded in terms of economic impact
trains and planes are completely different animals. if you have to travel long distances you have to fly or go by train (in europe). there are not other options. if people stop taking long trips, then there is an impact
long trips are not necessary for survival. food is

You are hopeless if you think that a terrorist attack on ANY major shopping outlet, let alone WalMart, would have a net neutral or positive effect on the economy. Just the psychological impact of being hit on U.S. soil again would send ripple effects throughout the markets. I mean, these stock brokers go crazy if the CPI is .2% below or above expectations, you don't think a terrorist attack would lead to a selloff???

sfp, just b/c you interprete his experience as over reaction does not mean it is so. Believe it or not, a six digit post count does not = wisdom.
Say one of these "harmless" gentlemen do indeed wipeout many inncent people in the coming days, what guidance will you have for all of us narrowminded folk?
Your ambivolence does not amaze me.

ok dude listen
IF this was a terrorist attack in the preparation stage, then you have to think about it like they would
why would they be so stupid to pick that target and do it out in the open where any joe schmoe (you) would see?
IF this was a legit prep for an attack, they wanted you to see them and divert resources to this wal mart and other similar areas. then they'll use this gap to attack their real target
Posted on 6/14/08 at 11:55 am to SlowFlowPro
Why would they risk an attack now when their friend Obama is ready to be elected president. I can only imagine that this would have a much larger impact on the US economy in a negative way.

That is a plausible scenario. Another one could be these two guys could've been friends with different guys who would actually carry out the attack at some later point in time. Who knows what the real story is here.

even if it was a dry run, there is nothing you can do to stop them from doing this in any shopping mart
i refuse to live in fear, especially over a threat that cannot be stopped

it's the nature of the beast
people can choose to live in fear and ruin their lives or not. that's their choice
i will say this. you're going to die at some point, and wasting your life while you're alive is not a good thing
Posted on 6/14/08 at 11:57 am to jwall3
No! Obama would talk with them. That is what General Lee should have done. Talk with these guys and try to reason with them if they are for real.
