Christianity never required pre-payment for one to be a member or kept its most holy doctrines hidden from its followers and the outside world. Scientology is a sci-fi tax scam that has evolved into one of the most authoritarian and scary groups of people on the planet.

The truth is hard to take. It started as a cult. Just like all religions. Whether spread by Oracles, Mystics, Pastors, Shamans and Priests etc.... it's all the same. It just depends on what side of the world your are on or, what century you are in. A human construct to help understand the world around them that grew out of control.
