I’ve covered a large area for past 12 plus years in sales. Many hotels, Many dinners.
I can’t recall one time an “auto gratuity” was added for a party of 2-3-4-5

Didn’t read all the responses but - come on -
Wait staff aren’t entitled to tips but it’s customary to leave them, especially for good service. There are many people that come from the minority cultures and many younger millennials who do not tip.
Some people go in and consciously make a mess of things and don’t leave tips. Many eat a whole meal then say it’s horrible and expect a comp. it happens all the time.
I’ve had two experiences where I’ve gone back to a restaurant and asked for the receipts to be pulled bc I was overcharged for a tip. Funny how it didn’t make the paper.

It happens. Not sure what to tell ya.
In 2012 the IRS changed how they classified auto gratuities. It now considers them service charges.

Well there’s always exceptions.
I couldn’t care less about the tip. If he didn’t want to tip them then all he had to do was remove it from the bill before he signed it or tell his credit card company to not pay it.
My issue is with the way he handled it then tried to act like he didn’t ask for all the attention

Just reading these stories you can’t help but laugh how the new hot button word is “equity”. It used to be “equality”

We attained equality, and that didn't help so they are going all commie on us.
Equity is just another word from the progressive word soup that most can't define anyway.

Exactly. What everyone should be worried about is where they go next because we know their current proposals won’t do a damn thing

Sure, it was talked about among other servers, but my experience was non-tippers came from all walks of life. Even then, it only happened to me a couple times a week. Which is why I’m inclined to believe that this waiter had a series of bad events that lead him to believe he wouldn’t get tipped.
That doesn’t make what he did right.
But you have to ask yourself why would he do this if he was always tipped well by black people?
