they had a controversial pledge death in 1980/1981

familiar with that, among all of the stupid things that they and most all frats do and miraculously live to tell about it, that one did not involve alcohol or hazing, a very unfortunate accident

We were on the upswing when I pledged. Had like 40 or so actives after we got initiated. We kept growing and I think we were around 80 or so when I graduated. Last I heard we were getting around 70 or so guys in each of the last several classes.

Way too big imo. I felt 60-70 actives was the sweet spot. At least for the size of the house we had.

Yea

Eta: assuming that they initiate most of their pledge classes. Idk about the last year or two, but I kniw they had a 3 or 4 year streak of most bids accepted.

I think they're around that size now or close to it.

I liked being medium sized. Flew under the radar, but still enough actives that we had plenty in the budget for parties/bands/events

I can't even imagine what their budget is like now lol.

In the current climate, I think getting that big is just a matter of when, not if, you get popped for something big enough to get you suspended or kicked off campus.

Every fraternity has their frick ups who do dumb shite to bring unwanted attention. That's harder to manage when you got 170+ members.

oh yeah, we had a few scandals and a few near misses but in this day and age I think we would be perma-banned

We had a pledge one year that seemed overly inquisitive about all sorts of things. A rumor started that he was an administration spy. I have no idea if he really was, but we shitcanned him with the quickness.

Same here. Greek life is a bit of an afterthought at LSU, imo. Have friends who have gone to places like Ole Miss and Bama and those are schools where you're going to be miserable if you're not Greek. LSU doesn't have that feel.

Yeah, I don't really have a good feel on what Greek like is like at LSU. It's big at UT though. I knew I was going to go through rush as a freshman/sophomore in high school. And I had a good idea what fraternities I wanted to rush based on stuff I had heard.

Was that the one where they walked the blindfolded kid down Nicholson and let him get hit by a car?

River Road, and that's not exactly how it played out

I don't remember the details. I do remember it was a big deal at the time.

it was tragic and ironic the way it happened and kind of a perfect storm of incredibly bad luck and timing, again no booze, and not a hazing incident

I’ve heard it was liquor and blow at a party from people around campus.

Just close all frats and sororities. Too much of a liability for schools
