Delta and United join list of companies to cut ties with the NRA

Two major airlines. A cybersecurity firm. Six car rental brands. A home security company. An Omaha bank. Companies have scrambled to cut ties with the National Rifle Association over the past couple of days, and the list continued to grow into the weekend.
Delta Air Lines (DAL) announced Saturday morning that it's ending discounted rates for NRA members. "We will be requesting that the NRA remove our information from their website," the company said in a tweet.
United Airlines (UAL) followed a short time later, saying the company will no longer offer discounts on flights to the NRA annual meeting.
And TrueCar (TRUE), a car buying service, said late Friday that it would end its deal with the NRA as of February 28.
The companies were the latest to abandon partnerships with the NRA amid a renewed public debate over tightened gun laws following a school shooting in Florida last week that left 17 dead.
First National Bank of Omaha on Thursday pledged to stop issuing an NRA-branded Visa card. A bank spokesperson said "customer feedback" prompted a review of its partnership with the NRA, and it chose not to renew its current contract.
There was also a wave of car rental outfits. Enterprise Holdings, which runs the Enterprise, Alamo and National car rental groups, announced that it will end the discount deal it has with the NRA on March 26.
On Friday, car rental company Hertz (HTZ) said in a tweet that it's also ending its NRA rental car discount program.
The NRA was advertising a Hertz partnership on its "member benefits" page as recently as Friday morning, but that listing disappeared by the afternoon.
The National Rifle Association did not immediately comment on Saturday about the decisions by the various companies to sever ties.

I'd love to know how much money the NRA has taken in over the last 2 weeks

Doesnt matter. Revenue from new members over last week will more than make up for it.
Its sad that so many entitities hate our Constitution

I don’t understand how/why companies put themselves in the midst of controversial political discussions when they have absolutely nothing to gain by taking a stance and a lot to lose.
Just bad business. How did their CEOs get into those positions?

Meh, you shouldn't be getting discounts just for being an NRA member anyway.

This is the result of social media driven business strategy and, as companies like ESPN know, it's not a good idea. It's also the result for social terrorism by the small minority of "militant" leftists.

A vast majority of the country does not give a flying frick who cuts ties with the NRA.
Lose the far right wackos, gain the far left wackos, maintain the middle 95%.
What they did accomplish is getting free press.

Yep, social media is skewing the idea that much of the country believes a particular way

More so the media in general. But social media is a joke. Everyone has a voice and and everyone should be heard. True. But just because I listened doesn’t mean I give a shite or agree with you.

Small minority? How bout an organization with 5 million members dictating policy for 300 million. THAT's social terrorism. No, check that, it's actual terrorism when you consider the mass murders carried out with guns.

These companies entered into these partnerships with NRA because they recognized the NRA membership as an extremely de$irable demographic to target and solicit.
They may regret distancing themselves from this lucrative comsumer group .

That's probably true, but I'm simply saying that this is a result of a risk/reward evaluation based on the threat of a prevalent group that will inevitably attempt to link a business with supporting the murder of children.

Great news. I’d choose either airline in a heartbeat! If I flew commercial of course.

Yeah, God forbid we have a group that advocates for the protection of a foundational constitutional right. Maybe when someone says something that gets someone hurt, we can start demanding to do away with the first amendment as well. Grow up, kid.

Credibility gone.
Terrorism is activities like flying planes into skyscrapers and firebombing churches, not donating to a political action committee, regardless of their stance.
