Killings 7 years ago, his arrest was Oct 2022. That's a long investigation. I wonder if that gives an edge to the defense.

At various times, they've said similar things about bite marks, blood spatters, textile matching. (at least)
Years ago there was a case in Texas where a guy brutally beat his young daughter and killed her, alleging she was possessed by the devil or something. He and the girl's mother were doing an "exorcism" on the girl and basically tortured her for like 30 hours or something. She was eventually killed with a hammer. It was a brutal attack and bite marks on her body were used at trial. He was sentenced to death, to be the first executed in 2019. Later a court decision said bite marks could not be used - they ordered a stay of his execution one day prior to the execution date.
I think a re-trial or re-consideration of the case was ordered but he was taken off death row, maybe released pending a new trial, I'm not sure. But he was then given a new death sentence and was to be the first executed in 2021. He got another stay, this time on account of his low intelligence.
Not sure what happened since that time.

Bite marks are unreliable.

Intellectual disability invokes the 8th amendment. That is the argument.

I’m not a huge proponent of the death penalty, but in some cases it sucks that we can’t just get it over with.

Regarding the man being tried, it was a short investigation. Some incompetent government employee misfiled a report, and it took many years for that to be discovered. Once it was found & reviewed, they quickly locked on the defendant.

No update after what was supposed to be such a horrifying day of witness testimony?

Watched a bit of that video from the attorney giving a recap - she is big mad at the judge for making the trial more chaotic than it ought to be and restricting information. She even filed a motion to get more transparency.

I mean, there’s not much doubt he actually did it. Whether the state can prove it beyond a reasonable doubt with the evidence they are allowed in is a different story, but I don’t think enough difference to really matter. He’ll be unanimously convicted. But how does a dude in his mid 40s just out of the blue do something so heinous without having done anything like this before? It goes against everything we thought we knew about guys who commit these types of crimes.
