I hit downtown directly after work if any of the guys from the office are going for a quick drink. It’s usually Happys or Jolie Pearl at 4 on a weekday though

What caused it to go south?

The dumb bitch fraud mayor and the open container law that the bitch implemented. She is worse than the COA - and thats bad.

Ummm....yea...a chick that high tails when she finds out you are a broke dick is not an upgrade over who he was married to. His ex-wife is a very quality woman.

Delgado running for mayor deffinitly quickened up this process.

I happened before then. He screwed around on his wife whose rich gay uncle was bankrolling his previous campaigns and bars.

He's a great guy. Much respect for his position through all of this.

Delgado has the worst political instincts of anyone I've ever met. He called the St. George organizers terrorists, tried to pander to NBR with some economic development BS, went full bore MAGA to try to court the Trump vote, and ended up being hated by everyone because he's such a slimeball

He blows with the prevailing winds of the moment. You can’t trust people like that. They’re usually pretty slimy, and he’s certainly no exception.

I like going out downtown to Driftwood, Bengal, River Room, and Blend. But I’m also past my late night days so I’m long gone before the trash comes out. Then again I can walk home to Spanish Town and not have to drive anywhere.

Sure, the music is better than most bars

How can you even tell? For a bar that literally started on the concept of being a never ending juke box, they sure have gotten away from that by turning the music down to a whisper.

They advertise disco parties all the time and I’m just like ????? When I CAN hear a song, it is always music I like.. but they consistently keep the music awkwardly low.

I agree - I like River Room, Blend, and Driftwood. However, all three have been so depressingly dead the last time I’ve gone out down there that I’m afraid to keep trying.

I don’t go out looking for a crowded place either, but being the only table or person at the bar is weird as hell and makes for a horrible atmosphere.

I use to be a regular at olive or twist but since we moved the downtown bars are much more convenient.

Happys has a solid tap line up now. Driftwood is a great cocktail and beer bar. Gregory at Watermark has good wine and cocktails and is easily the nicest bar/lobby in Baton Rouge. If you are more interested in afternoon cocktails and beer, instead of raging till 2, downtown has some great options these days.
