I wouldn't consider it a Darwin award. I think the guy expected this outcome and went anyway in obedience to the commandment to preach the gospel to all the world. Missionaries have been getting killed for 2000 years.

Illegal, misguided, and he wasn't doing these people any favors. He's just accelerating their inevitable collision with the modern world and their resulting destruction. But Darwin Award implies moronic recklessness or ignorance of the risk. I don't think this qualifies.

Considering the only conclusion to this is he either kills most of them or they kill him, I’d consider that moronic recklessness.

We are leaps and bounds above our knowledge from where we were at when missionaries were in their prime. Even just 100 years ago, there is absolutely no acceptable reason to be doing this to these people, he was an absolute moron.
