December 18, and other LA Covid facts

There were no Covid deaths in Louisiana on December 18, 2021. The first such date since March, 2020.
I started back with my "active case count" on 12/27. My method has been positive tests from the past 14 days plus hospitalizations. I know this isn't the true active count, but I wanted to stay consistent with my original and "Delta" trackers.
Biggest thing to note is that the % of cases hospitalized is under 1.5%. Between August and October 2021, that number was between 4% & 6%. October 2020 was between 9% & 10%.

They juice the death numbers but show your work. The number they say has been in the low teens all season. If it was 0 one day it was a reporting error.
As I scroll through the stats there are a few days with 0. But they are all Saturdays or holidays when they didn’t report. Covid takes weekends and holidays off.
No deaths on December 11-12: Saturday as Sunday
No deaths on December 18-19: Saturday and Sunday
No deaths on December 24-26: Christmas weekend
No deaths on December 31-January 2: New Years weekend

Also keep in mind that now with at home testing a large portion of cases aren’t being reported so the true percent of hospitalizations is probably even lower. And that’s not even counting asymptomatic cases which this omicron has a lot of
And if we consider that most of the hospitalizations are WITH COVID and not FOR COVID.
You are probably looking at a hospitalizations rate of 0.5 or less could potentially be way less

Below is a screenshot from the LDH website. This shows the date that the death occurred, not the date that it was reported. December 27th was at zero until today. It's now at 2. I couldn't get a screenshot with my mouse hovering on the date to show the zero, but you can see it's the only spot where the line is at the bottom.

Daily reports of deaths aren’t from the previous day. I believe they’re reported when the death certificate is certified, but I’m not 100% sure about that.
Our Underlord has been chasing that elusive statistic- it’s a shame he wasn’t able to celebrate the day.
Nice job breaking that down. It’s nice to break it down into percentages to compare apples to apples

The virus is weakening, but becoming more contagious. I tested positive yesterday and my symptoms have been very mild. A few aches, mild headache yesterday, mild cough. I’ll take this over a stomach/intestinal virus every, single time.
Also, two shot Moderna vax, no booster.
