They have some interesting composites out there that are outperforming metals when it comes to tensile strength, weight reduction, corrosion, etc. We are printing down hole tools for the O&G industry with PEEK and Carbon Peek currently

ok got you, i was under the assumption 3d printing was similar to machining where you started with a block first. good to know

Why buy metal 3D printing equipment when it is much cheaper to buy metal lathes and milling equipment that makes a better and more reliable part?
Certain components can be built with additive manufacturing that can’t be produced with traditional reductive manufacturing. Plus the cost of material is less bc you have much less waste.

Thanks, I'll look into it. Also, no secret agent man here...

Was watching a 60 minutes and they are developing a robot to 3D print structures on the moon out of moon dust using lasers. Wild stuff.

I'm a commercial GC and just used Sketchup and my local library's 3D printer to manufacture some simple parts I needed for finishes and saved myself $300. Technology is amazing guys.
I completed a project at a Federal 3D printing R&D laboratory in Idaho last year. The shite they were doing would boggle the mind...and they are actually building the printers as well as buying them off the shelf to retro-engineer. Bunch of guys in the mid to late 20s, none of whom had ever been laid probably, just absolutely ATE up with their work...it was kind of contagious to be honest. I spent way more time with them than was needed but the work they were doing is absolutely fascinating. They are literally printing 3 bedroom 2 bath homes....at scale but it can be done in actual size.
I have a site visit at another one in South Carolina sometime early next year. It is really amazing what they are doing. It seems kind of trite until you realize where it can lead...
