Ok I am going to amazon to get an air soft gun. I have a feeling drinking beers on the deck will lead to more things getting shot.

Rifle or pistol?

Like others have said, spraying in the holes and covering them usually does the trick. To keep them away you should paint the wood. The like unfinished wood.

Go out there at dawn or dusk and seal them up inside their holes with silicone or caulk. Combine that tactic with a big dose of badminton racquet treatment to any stragglers and you'll see their numbers diminish.

Make one of those wooden traps. Google for instructions but you csn simplify. I promise it will catch all of them. You only need one bottle hanging, not the two they show and it also doesnt need angled sides. Just make little square box but important that side holes are upward. Forget that spraying holes or clogging. Remember, a trap will work 24/7. You cant stay out there killing all the time.

Here's a pic of trap I made. It works great. I took off cap for spring bc it was catching too many bumble bees which i wanted to save for pollinating. Side holes are 1/2 diameter. .

I'm pretty impressed by the holes they make, just let them do their thing and buy a new house later

When I was a kid we would catch them (no small feat) and tie a thread on them and let them fly. It was like having a live flying kite.
