Sunset bar on Maho beach is also a good day drinking spot watching the planes come and go and the people fly in to the water when the planes take off. Get a few lounge chairs and buckets of beer. Constant entertainment.
If a big cruise ship is in port, youll want to make sure you get there early if you want lounge chairs though.

Agree with this. St. Maarten is like Panama City in the Caribbean

is that your experience from your day trip on the carnival cruise?

The dutch side does have a more party atmosphere but its not all 20 year old college kids, and the French side resembles nothing of panama.

No. Just basing it on herds of fat, midwestern tourists sporting their "St. Maarten" shirts in the Princess Juliana Airport where we make our connection from St. Barths.

The maho timeshares and casinos do bring a fair share of fat Americans. But much of the island tourists consist of Dutch, german and French tourists as they have non stops from Paris, Amsterdam, and dusseldorf. I honestly meet less Americans while out than Europeans.

And to buckeye, you're going to see the nekid women's on all the beaches, even if not a "nude beach" especially on the French side. Every beach has its own vibe. Just depends on what you're looking for.

Not an option plus I have this place for 9 days. If I like St. Barts which I am sure I will I'll go there again. We got to the Caribbean 3-4 times a year now.

Yeah, I'm thinking about Saba as well. I know I'm going to do day trips to St. Barts and Anguilla for sure. I don't like being herded or put on a clock though and private day charters get expensive in a hurry.I think we'll ferry over to Anguilla and then cab wherever we want to go. I'll have to think about St. Barts and how I want to do that day.

Thanks for the suggestions so far. It's much appreciated.

Well, I'm not fat or midwestern (any more) and I'm sure we will somehow find a way to enjoy ourselves. I haven't spent much time on St. Maarten but I did enjoy the fact that it has differing cultures on the island when I was there and it was a place I wanted to explore more. I can't say the same for many other islands that I've been on.

I do understand what you are saying though because you've described St. Thomas perfectly. The only reason IMO to ever visit St. Thomas is to get to the ferry to St. John and the BVI which I do frequently.

Take your kids to the rope swing/climb at rotarie farms. I also had a good meal there after the climb.

I did it at 26. I think it's better suited for that age. Finish up and grab some wine or a cocktail at their bar.

There was an awesome 1/2 day excursion on St. Maarten where you go "race" 12 metre boats. Allegedly, all of the boats they use were one time America's Cup participants. You can do anything from man the bar to batten down the hatches. Sure it's touristy but it was a great time and I highly recommend it.

Would St. Maarten and the surrounding islands be a good vacation spot for a group of 24-25 year olds to hang out and party? If not, what other places in the Caribbean would you recommend?

We did that trip last summer & loved it. To add what's been mentioned, on St. Maarten check out Cupecoy Beach on the Dutch side. Lots of little caves which are pretty cool to see. Mullet Bay (also Dutch side) has a great sandy beach & cool little beach bar. Most of Orient beach is not nude & is worth seeing. It's pretty busy with jet skis, parasailing & other activities. We hung out near La Playa & they have waiters that will bring you food & drinks.

As for Anguilla, Shoal Bay East has the clearest water I've ever seen. There's a small reef right off the beach that has pretty good snorkeling. Our favorite place on Anguilla was Rendezvous Bay. Right next to Cuisinart is Bankie Banx's Dune Preserve & the Moonsplash Bar. Great food & strong drinks, although a bit pricey. The view from the bar is incredible. Bankie is usually there & hangs out on a couch right next to the bar.

We are heading to St. Maarten at the beginning of March for 8 days.

Come on down.

I've been looking into excursions off of the island and it appears that St. Barts, Anguilla and Prickly Pear are the easiest to get to for a day trip.

I haven't been to St. Barts yet, but we went to Anguila last sat and it was a pretty cool day trip. We just ate at a restaurant that I can't remember the name (I'll edit if I can think of it). It is only like a 45 minute ferry ride on a calm day and saturday was perfect.

Have you been to Soggy Dollar recently? It is pretty damn sketchy if there isn't a party.

day party places

Go to any of the hotels that have an all inclusive. Sonesta Maho has an all you can eat all you can drink for $65/day. The regatta is march 5th-8th and it is going to be cray. If you are here then

Also all the beaches are topless so that is good.

Yes it does.

My daughter and a friend will be with us on the trip so the nude beaches are not happening.

Just so you know all the beaches are topless and Orient is completely nude and the age of consentment on the dutch side is 15 (so if she is 15 or older watchout if not disregard that last piece of info).

Was last there in May of last year. We went to the Willie T in November when we were in the BVI again.

We're aware the beaches are topless. My daughter is 25 so what she chooses to do is her own business. If she chooses to do topless however she and her friend can go off without dad around.

I'd love to get together with a fellow TD member if it works out while I am there.
