Time to buy some cheap oil stocks!

Not just yet!! But sooner or later if it stays down! MUahahahaha

Maybe buy some production when some of these folks that went all in on some production and paid waaaaaaaay too much because "oil will NEVER go below $100/barrel again!!!" go belly up.

Most of them will be fine, this is not going to last that long. Rig will be back to work before the unemployment runs out.

this is another reason why I can't understand some of the complaining I have heard...

of course that could be because I know a lot of people in the oil and gas industry that have a wife/kid/multiple nice things.

Wife also doesn't work for a living.

Those types of people are set up for a heartbreak if they don't have a backup plan

haven't either, but I just would think that of all of the work forces in the world, that the O&G industry workers would realize this more than anyone

Even in down years of O&G there was plenty of money to be made.

It isn't just Bubba's that get caught in it. New Orleans has plenty of skyskrapers from the 70's that still stand vacant due to belief it would last forever. Even highly educated people don't want to believe their industries are one decision away from vanishing.

So you believe that somehow O&G workers have found a way to circumvent the laws of supply and demand

I never get this in any line of work. Especially if you run the risk of losing a license or certification in your job.

An engineer is great, but frick up and lose your license you won't have people lining up to hire you. Same goes for a lawyer. The job you take will no doubt be for less money.

So they worked hard and produced lots of oil so there is excess supply now? I guess we agree.

Saw one the other day that said "Spoiled Oilfield Wife" on a jacked GMC. Platinum blonde with bolt ons.

I mean, I hate for anyone to lose a job. Oil field jobs are good paying and hard working. But a couple of things:
1. Even where we are now, the price is still higher than it was 10-15 years ago.
2. Surely ExxonMobil et al are not so naive. These companies have been screaming "drill baby drill" for decades. We've ramped up production and are now the world's largest producer. So surely they didn't think the Saudis would just sit back and allow themselves to lose market share.

And I fail to see how the US having a more powerful position in the world market is a bad thing. The big companies might have to scale back for a little while, but we aren't going to see the industry collapse. Gas will be cheap, disposable income will be up, demand will increase.

Plenty might be a stretch, but there are a lot of buildings in the CBD that struggled to get tenants after the oil bust. The buildings were damn near brand new then.
