Most people who have the money for it are not getting DoorDash. I'll deliver to nice houses every now and then, but I deliver to shitty apartment complexes more than anywhere else.

Most of my hangup is simply my dumbass personality. I don't even like doing drive through. Its an anti-laziness technique that got out of control.

Just curious, how much do you normally make per hour doing that?

Less here in Indiana on the side. In Boise, anywhere from $16-24 an hour. Indiana, so far, has seemed more like $14-18.

You could probably make more hourly, but you'd blow everything on mileage. I'd rather have a lower hourly wage, especially for side work, and only accept orders worth my time, than put extra wear and tear on the car and increase my odds to get pissed off at someone in traffic.

As far as average tip, it super depends. Some don't tip anything, and I don't take those. It shows up as an order that will pay me $3. I have a $6 minimum. The orders I take people usually tip anywhere from $4 to $7. Which, if base is $2.50, usually comes out to $6.50-$9.50. I can do 2-3 of these in an hour because I also have a miles per dollar requirement that I set.

Sometimes I will sit in a mall parking lot for an hour reading a book, declining shite orders.

I would say average tip for a run that I would accept (there's a lot of orders I decline) is $5 per plus the DD base pay which is $2.50 for my area. Used to be $3.00. Some places it's extremely higher

I stopped using DoorDash a year ago when the driver messaged me that he had to wait a long time for my order and he hoped I would make that up to him. I’d already added a 20% tip to the order, btw. When I didn’t reply, he never delivered my food. He picked it up and never delivered it bc I didn’t respond to his request.

rarely if ever use those services

I don't either. It's just not worth it to me. Of course, my plan is to pay off everything except for my house by the end of this year. I delivered an order of nachos bell grande 3 miles yesterday for $9. I just can't wrap my head around that thinking. It cost them $15 for one order of nachos. They only live 2 miles away from taco bell.

I've never been tempted to use this service and this thread has made me glad that I don't

I love UberEats and haven’t ever had an issue with them. It’s a convenience that’s worth it to some and not to others. I don’t mind paying the fee and tip if I want something from a place I don’t feel like driving to and waiting around for food.

I'm not complaining. I'm making $2K extra a month off of them. I sit at my house working my other job in the day time and take a few decent orders just to get out of the house, and a few hours in the evening.

Oh I agree, it's just mind blowing at how lazy some people are. I can understand it at the height of Covid but now, there's not an excuse really. But to each their own I suppose

everything you're talking about is based on having insightful accountability... which if you interviewed the majority of people operating as door dash drivers, i'm not sure how high they would score on accountability.

glad to see how insightful you are however.

She asked for extra tip so that wouldn’t happen. Blackmail. Pay it or good luck with your food being untouched.
