But you never know with these plants. Not too long after that, I took a job thru a contractor at Exxon (refinery side) doing exactly that kind of design/drafting in their fab/maintenance shop. Grunt work stuff just like that. The most ridiculous job ticket I had there was for a drawing of a stile to go over a 6” curb. No kidding. They wanted it a standard rise/run (7:11), so it consisted of one step up (which at 7” was higher than the curb), a small platform over the curb, and one step down. All fabricated from steel.
That was definitely a case of a unit trying to spend up all their budget prior to the end of FY.

Also I was to young to respond with a snarky response.....

Yeah, not exactly the most professional way to deal with it.

First question out of the VP's mouth: "Why do you want to work for us?". One of my reasons was because I had a relative that worked for the company for 30+ years and liked the company - he stops me right there and says, "So the only reason you want to work for us is because we are a stable company and pay good?". I started to respond and he cuts me off again and says "You're not what we want here, have a nice day" and escorts me out. Strangest interview I've ever been on.
I had a similar situation when I was interviewing for jobs out of college.
Had an all-day interview that was going great. Spoke with three different people, and each interaction went smoothly. I was feeling really good about it. The last person I interviewed with was the VP. He started off with some of your typical interview questions, but then asks me "why do you want to work here?"
OK, let's be honest. This was 2009. Why did I want to work there? Because it was a fricking job, and I thought it was a good fit for my skillset. No more. No less. I wasn't trying to save the manatees.
So of course I leave out the "it's a fricking job" part but reply that I felt it was a job that fit my strengths and that it seemed like a great company to work for.
Well, apparently that wasn't good enough. For the next 10 minutes, he leads me through a frustratingly futile round of 20 questions trying to drill down in my innermost desires of why I wanted the job. It seriously went as deep as me saying "uhhh...because I want to get married and have kids and I need an income to support them."
I guess I didn't have the magic answer he was looking for, because he just chuckled condescendingly at me. I didn't get the job, and I honestly don't know why other than that question. I even had one of the other people I interviewed with email that they were excited about my potential and they hoped to see me again.
Those type of "holier-than-thou" questions have been a pet peeve of mine ever since.

I hadnone that was kinda a "free play" back when I was 22.
A girl needed the job more than me, so I was going to make them not like me on purpose. I had fun with it. They ended up going with her.

Bar owner in Lafayette will go inspect your vehicle at the end of the interview. Says if you can’t keep your vehicle clean then you won’t keep his bar clean.
Boss sends someone out into the parking lot to take pics of the inside of your vehicle. If you’re a slob, not a good look.

This guy sounds like a lunatic.

The “tell me your biggest strengths/weakness” bullshite. Yeah, like I’m gonna tell you I’m a huge procrastinator with a bad temper.

I had a summer job in college fall thru due to some sketch balls. I really didn’t have my shite together at the time so I was scrambling. Took every Craigslist interview I could around BR.
The worst one was for a “nascar marketing firm”
It was one of those janky dudes that sell tire shine outside of gas stations. They took me to a gas station off goodwood and wouldn’t let me leave until they sold some product.
It was an eye opening experience. I went from a legit job to hustling wax at a gas station.

Be willing to bet that most of the ones involving that a-hole, Harvey Weinstein, would be the stuff of short stories that would settle out of court for large sums.

Wasn’t my own interview but I know a girl from college who applied to the same company I was with at the time a year after I began working there. Veryyy attractive girl. My boss had the normal interview at the office and then took her to the bars across from our office with a couple other senior guys and one junior guy which is pretty normal for us to do after we interview someone. I wasn’t there but supposedly they all got extremely drunk, all went to back to my boss’ place and she fricked every single one of them. Next day I sort of got the low down on what happened from the other junior guy when the president of my company walked up and told my boss that he hopes he didn’t take her to a bar as she was only 20 years old. Needless to say she ended up not getting the job because of her age which they weren’t aware of at the time (our job basically revolved around drinking with clients every day so it was sort of an issue) but my boss found her a gig with another company REAAAAAL quickly

Maybe not so much interview, but post-offer I accepted a job in DC. I got my salary negotiated and everything.
Flew back home to pack everything up and drive my life back up there. Came back and they just never returned my calls or emails ever again.

In 2001, I lost my Supervisor job with a telecommunications company due to a layoff. I was soon called for an interview, it was for a CSR position at a local alarm company. It was something I could do without thinking, and way beneath my pay expectation, but I had kids, and needed a job.
When I got there, my interview consisted of me counseling the Manager on HR issues, and teaching her how to deal with escalated customer problems. At first, I thought it was a unique way to interview someone for a position that would never have to handle managerial issues. After a few minutes, it became abundantly clear, she knew I was more experienced than her and needed advice. I gave it to her and left. I was not called for the position, probably because she was afraid I'd take hers.
It was probably for the best.

Mine isn't really crazy.
My junior year of college I was applying for summer internships and got invited to interview for an oil company. I get to the interview and the first thing the guy tells me is that the company pulled him off his job site in Siberia to come do this interview because he was an alum. Ok, cool, we talked about his job for a little bit.
Then he starts the interview questions. The questions all seemed a little bit above my experience level as a student. Stuff you'd hear in a full time job interview with a few years of experience, specifically "describe a time when you had to apply your engineering knowledge to identify a problem and fix it." So I started telling him about a project at my internship from the previous summer, where a brand new construction was falling apart, how we went out to the site to look at it, decide what went wrong, and fix it based on what we saw.
Then the guy does what I can only describe as that scene from Anger Management where Jack Nicholson tries to piss him off by asking who he is. He says "ok but how did you know it was failing?" Confused, I told him "well, because we got a report so we went to the site and saw that it was falling apart." He says "yes I know that, but how did you KNOW it was failing?" So I told him "sir, we went to the site and saw that the construction wasn't performing as intended, due to the fact that it was in pieces." Again, he says "ok but that doesn't tell me why you know it was failing." I was pissed and confused at this point so I said "ok. We went to the job site, used our eyes to look at the project and visually determine that it was in pieces, performed testing to determine what caused it to fail, and fixed it based on the results." He says "well that wasn't a very good answer. Try harder next time."
I didn't get the job, unsurprisingly.
