The poster geaux1 never said he was paying his employees below the minimum wage.

Now obviously by his post they were likely not highly compensated individuals especially if they qualify for food stamps. But they have the same opportunities as everyone else to get an education and find better employment that would allow them to earn more.

Sadly most of these dependents sucking off the government's tit intentionally chose not to so that their government provided freebies are not cut off from them due to making more than their "living wage" as you call it.

Would be funny if someone asked Biden about the crawfish prices.

I didn't say minimum wage. So, I read his words wrong?

He'd probably issue an executive order releasing all inventory from the national strategic crawfish reserves. It is an election year after all.

Liberals like you are the reason this nation is in the condition it's in.

Last I looked this was still a free country and employees everywhere were able to decide whatever occupation they choose.

I'll say it again so that you understand. These types of employees deliberately make an effort to work part time or for low wages as to not disqualify themselves from government assistance.

Sao,
What I the hell are you talking about?
Please quote where I said I paid below minimum wage. I’ll wait…

The workers in question made $10-$14 an hour 12 years ago.

Enjoy your food stamp crawfish Sao.

Priced me out of buying crawfish this year if this price keeps up. No way will I pay $5 much less $8lb for crawfish but I do know some people will pay it.

They are not that good to me but to each his own..

Good luck to them.

Again WTF are you talking about???

Min wage was not then and is not now $12 in Louisiana. What public assistance are you talking about?
Please enlighten all of us what public assistance you speak of? YOU are the only one who seems to have trouble understanding what I’m talking about in this post which tells me you are probably in the group who will be enjoying your tax payer crawfish.

As a taxpayer who has paid into the system since 1985 none of it goes over my head. Unfortunately I fully grasp how dire this country's fiscal situation is and totally loathe citizens who milk the programs designed for temporary living assistance perpetually as well as those who sky scream everyday for bigger government and more programs.

Ok, you're way too pissed. On one hand you can't fathom poors affording crawfish and on the other, can't fathom them being on state assistance. Which, by the way, is something the crawfish producers rely on for revenue. Your entire shock an EBT card pays for bugs is ironic, and something you should evaluate.

That’s completely fine. Believe or not as a producer I don’t like the price being this high, the whole industry is pricing itself out. I wish we could catch enough right now to have normal prices so people could afford them, but sadly the price has to be what it is and we still aren’t making any money.

For once we agree on something. Yes already boiled crawfish sales are propped up by EBT program. It’s the sole reason the state removed the can’t buy hot prepared food rule.

I’m not shocked that EBT pays for bugs, I’m pissed that it does. At these current prices eating crawfish is a luxury. If you can’t see EBT to purchase $9lb boiled crawfish as ridiculous then please say so and I will then realize the person you are.
The idea that someone who needs taxpayer assistance to get thru life doesn’t have to make necessary lifestyle adjustments because they get “free” money if what bothers me.
It these types of decisions that people live on government assistance.
And before you mention, yes I realize people fall on hard times and need these programs. However, they are also the ones who don’t become lifelong government dependents and also are not buying $9lb boiled crawfish.

Prepare for prices to remain elevated at least until holy week and Easter passes.

We dont eat them either no matter how big my wife and mother in law's "en vie" is. Only if there is some extra that we are unable to sell due to buyers not buying because of a holiday or a glut on the market (never happens before Easter except for last year) would I consider boiling some at high ($3.00/lb +) prices.

Now after the cartel drops the price we eat enough to get tired of it until the end of the year.

Guy. You're not making sense. YOU mentioned food stamps. Minimum wage has nothing to do with it. You're not looking as smart as you think.

I mean, ok. But it can't be both ways. The whole living wage argument vs public assistance. If you're an employer paying below the minimum, you're essentially part of the problem. Right?

You implied I was paying employees below min and I was part of the problem. I was responding to your idiotic thought with facts.
