Lucchese is the only brand I'd wear. I have a pair since HS that I still wear, obviously a few sole replacements, and they are more comfortable than sneakers for me.

Threads like this are kinda of dumb, because different brands work for different people due to variances in foot shape.

This. Tecovas are shite boots with a great marketing department. They use pre-stretched leather so you’ll never actually break a pair in. QC also sucks. For $500 you can get an entry level pair of lucchese that will last a lifetime.

Vintage Lucchese absolutely.... boots made in the past 10 years, absolutely not. Leather quality and construction went vastly downhill.

Yeah it's definitely a difference discussed in my family. Though I still find them to be comfortable. but can definitely tell the difference between older ones and new ones I get.

If I was in the OP's position, I'd bypass the rack boots and get measured up by a master cobbler for a new pair hand built in a non-exotic hide. It would only be a couple hundred dollars more than his budget if he knew where to go.
He can actually do it under budget by getting them built south of the border in Juarez MX, but using caution as there are boot builders there who also sacrifice quality construction materials and techniques and deliver overpriced pairs that are subpar and aren't made to last.
There are videos out there showing pairs being deconstructed and cardboard actually being used instead of leather by some of these name brands who outsource their products to boot makers in Leon MX.

My daily’s are Ariat’s with a rubber sole, very comfortable. I have a few pair of Lucchese and they wear pretty good as well. The most comfortable dress boot I have is a pair of Burn’s shorties in Caiman and Canella, they were soft right out of the box.

quote:For most of my career I had to wear steel toe boots almost daily. I was a huge red wing guy and almost never wore anything else. Around 2010-2011 I bought a pair of Durango rebels. They were the most comfortable and lightest steel toe that I have ever worn. In fact I still have a couple of pairs hanging around. They have rubber soles but their outsoles are just glued on and can loosen over time with extreme wear. The great thing is that you can just get a boot shop to pull it off, clean, glue and press the same soles back on for much more mileage and only about ten bucks.

I will say that Durango makes a decent budget priced and comfortable leather soled boot also. Last year I was able to find a couple pairs of their leather soled Arena Pro line in cape buffalo on clearance for $100. They are mass produced but comfortable and look great for the price point.
The Durango XXX cushion insoles are on par with Ariat insoles and great fo anyone needing extra cushion or to take up space in an oversized boot. I recommend this brand for cost conscious buyers looking for a mass produced Mexican boot.
