Covington police officer goes above and beyond to help needy teen

Officer Bret Miller recently responded to a call about a juvenile refusing to go to school. When Miller arrived at the boy's home, he learned that the 13-year-old student at William Pitcher Junior High School was not refusing to go to school but had missed his bus and needed a ride.
Miller gave the boy a lift to school and on the way noticed the teen was wearing torn and tattered pants. The youth told Miller it was his only pair that met the school's dress code, Lentz said.
The officer dropped the teen off at school and went to a store where he used his own money to buy the boy two new pairs of khakis, Lentz said. Miller returned to the school and gave the pants to the youth.

It was technically not his own money. He had just taken it from a kid selling $3 rocks a few minutes before.
Supplementing wages, and whatnot.

In my late teens and early 20's, I worked with a lot of poor teenagers. On more than one occasion, while working with local truancy officers, I dealt with young people that missed school because of their clothes. Usually, their clothes were hand-me-downs from another sibling, and sometimes the younger sibling was much taller and the pants would be too short.
Unfortunately, the officers never got to the root of the problem. In many situations, there wasn't a truancy problem. The entire issue was a young person that was tired of getting clowned on during school.
I saw the same situation with a young man that was slinging a little dope to help support his crackhead mother. When given an opportunity to make money at a job, the dope slinging stopped.

How did he know his size? Who tipped the police off about the kid skipping school? And what about the Nisha call?
