Tax benefits.

My wife and I have been taxed much harder since marriage. It's a common scenario and often referred to as the marriage penalty. I don't know what kind of tax benefits you're talking about.

Again, I have no idea what benefit you get from insurance by being married. Ours is higher than ever.

Oh well your genes are gone after you die, sucks for you

Considering you are dead, how can it suck?

And I can respect that others may not feel so strongly about marriage.

I think religious beliefs play strongly into how one views marriage as well.

i would have to disagree. I still think we are animals and haven't evolved past that point...

I'm not saying we've evolved past being animals, I'm saying that in our society, there is not survival of the fittest. Look around. How about welfare?

Most of them will, not nearly all.

Please tell me a reason why you have to get legally married if you don't want kids. I don't get it

I have a reason unlike most. My wife is from E. Europe, so there's an obvious legal answer for me.

Others could want to enjoy tax benefits or insurance benefits, if we're just talking "legal".

We may have a kid in a couple years, but we travel a LOT right now. My sisters/brother and all our friends who have kids are always saying how jealous they are of us.

Why don't you file single then? If you and your wife make a lot of money and don't have write-offs then yes, it could be more tax being paid.

It's for the after. Are you just being obtuse?

well obviously welfare recipients are very fertile and have access to many many mates.

Actually welfare provides an excellent example of survival of the fittest

our key natural selection factors.

Survival to adulthood, mate access, mating success and fertility.

survival of the fittest is really a misnomer...I should be using natural selection instead

Trust me....I don't have some perfect marriage. Marriage has def challenged me and continues to all the time. Anyone who says it's easy is a liar. But.....it's worth it so far. As long as I keep feeling that (that's it's worth all the work)...then I know made the right choice.

But I can see how many just give up easily on it these days. Society makes us think it's supposed to be easy and that when it gets difficult....that you should consider divorce then.

I know one couple who made the decision not to have kids and the consensus among family member is they are regretting it now. They are 2 high income professionals that wanted the freedom to party and travel at will. And that's what they got. What they also got was karaoke night on Wed at the local watering hole has lost it's luster (now at age 46), and everyone else they know is busy raising children and if they ask them what's up, that's what the friends and family will talk about. This couple may be glad they don't have to deal with what they see as the rigors of being parents, but to some degree, many feel that they know they are missing something.

To each, his/her own. But this Earth did not become so populated by accident. The vast majority of people bonded and married with the assumption to procreate.

These no-kids folks are breeding themselves right out of the gene pool.

It is their choice. I respect it, but do not understand it.
