Been to Vietnam 5 times and its amazing (North and South) ....cheap, great food, secure, don't hate Americans as most think, but hate the french.
I would highly consider a move to
seriously thinking of retiring somewhere in that part of the world

Go to New Zealand Now. Awesome website. They have an interactive map with the different regions. I would kill to move there.
Funny thing. My wife followed Australia on Instagram.
A few minutes later New Zealand followed her.
The country tourism boards are competitive.

You have a very broad definition on what isn't a shithole, particularly Saudi Arabia.

What about South Africa? That seems to be ok.
Ask any South African and they'll tell you the country is largely ruined. It has nice parts, but 99% of it is a shithole.

I bet. Supposedly New Zealand loves expats. I think most of the people in Auckland are expats, mostly from Asia.
Too bad my law license is practically useless over there.

Not true at all. I spent a week and a half there this past Spring and it's not much different than a lot of Southern big cities.

It is probably really expensive and I'm sure I would have to do at least a year of extra schooling.

Yeah, as I said there are nice parts of it, but there's still tons of violent ghettos all around. Met with a South African client last week, and he went on a 15 minute diatribe on why South Africa is no where close to the US.

I've heard really good things about Colombia from two different Americans who moved there.

If looking at Africa, I could probably live in Namibia or Botswana.
