I actually wrote a folk song about Gary
Why Gary Why
Vs 1:
He waited in the airport on the phone that fateful day,
To claim a father’s justice in the old and ancient way,
Flown in from Cali, east to Baton Rouge to have a trial,
A wicked man, in handcuffs, on his face an evil smile,
But as he strode past the phone booth, from his boot came Gary’s gun
A single shot rang out a single shot got justice done,
He set his pistol down as one man’s camera caught it all,
blood was running from his head as Gary made the monster fall,
Refrain:
They asked him “Why, Gary, Why?”
calm and cool came his reply,
“You’d have done the same thing in my shoes,
Cause sometimes justice only comes,
From the barrel of a gun,
And a father does just what he has to do,
And the preacher man might tell me it’s a sin,
But if I had the chance I’d do it all again.”
Vs 2:
Doucet had done, things to his son,
That I won’t even mention,
Kidnapped and whisked away,
Subjected to his cruel intentions,
when his son returned he learned,
About his stolen innocence,
And no lawyer, that destroyer, now could come to his defense,
There’s no long life inside a prison,
Paid by the taxpayers dime,
No parole, for his black soul,
Plauche made him pay for his crime,
Refrain:
They asked him “Why, Gary, Why?”
calm and cool came his reply,
“You’d have done the same thing in my shoes,
Cause sometimes justice only comes,
From the barrel of a gun,
And a father does just what he has to do,
And the preacher man might tell me it’s a sin,
But if I had the chance I’d do it all again.”
Vs 3:
Some thought that Gary should be locked up,
For his vigilante path,
Of righteous fury, but the Jury,
Cleared him in the aftermath,
And it’s quite clear though, he’s a hero,
Quite admired cross the land,
In a world devoid of justice,
Sometimes men must take a stand,
When evil thrives, destroying lives,
Amongst indifference of good men,
Though Gary’s gone, his tale lives on,
These days we need more men like him,
Refrain:
They asked him “Why, Gary, Why?”
calm and cool came his reply,
“You’d have done the same thing in my shoes,
Cause sometimes justice only comes,
From the barrel of a gun,
And a father does just what he has to do,

Not bad. Learned some details I never knew.
I was 13, watching the news with my parents when I saw it happen.

All his mad lads stories are really good. Like I said, he's a really good story teller. The one on Ricardo Lopez is fricking wild.

No, because it was never broadcast “live” the incident happened close to 9:00 and was taped, the tape was rushed to the studio and arrived just in time for the 10:00 news so at that point it was at least an hour old, still a very fresh story but was not “live”

Gotta tell ya, this is weird AF knowing Jody is on here.
Great victims advocate who has to re-live the whole thing with this post.
