I worked in Carlsbad this s with winter, it’s a terrible state for the most part. I’m sure some areas are nice

Don't listen to the haters...New Mexico is great! I left La. In the early 90's and wound up in ABQ for 2 years and friggin loved it! I hear some parts of the city have gotten a bit more desperate after the recession and crime has increased in some areas. Depends in what you like...if you are an outdoor enthusiest you will love it. Skiing, hiking, camping, biking, whitewater, hunting, fishing are all convenient. Dont know your age and relationship status but UNM was packed full of hotties! I highly recommend! Good luck...cant be worse than La. Except You will have to get your seafood shipped in when you need your crawfish fix...if job is good no big deal.

Higher cost of living gone up since I lived there for a short time after I retired.
Different climate.
