I dont think it started that way but with some of the wild predictions of doom in this thread some are certainly hoping it happens now just so they can prove people like me that arent freaking out wrong. You can see it in the tones of some of these posts.

Because I think hundreds of thousands of people in the US will get COVID19 doesn't mean I hope it happens.
It also isn't necessarily "predicting doom". 99% of those people will be just fine. I do worry about elderly and strained hospital systems.
For a living I deal with hospital capacity and population health data, for the record. I am on the business side of an enormous hospital operator that operates all over the world. The guys who know what they're talking about and have studied infectious diseases their entire careers are disagreeing with you and ell_13.
I know what kind of capital we're spending in preparation for this shite and it is unprecedented. People who know what they're doing are saying this will be everywhere very soon and will clog our ERs/hospitals in a lot of areas. This leads to worse outcomes for patients who desperately need care.
It is our responsibility as a community to do what we can to slow it down to prevent that as much as we can.
I'll be fine, my wife and child will be fine, most of us will be fine. It is not the apocalypse. But it is a very serious thing.

From what I’ve read that was intended to leave a door open for Americans that couldn’t get out immediately. Heathrow is a major European hub back to the states.
We have to leave some avenue open. But at least it will be easier to track people coming in from 1 airport instead of many. It’s also strategic because it’s an island and control of people into U.K. can be tightly monitored
