In theory it would take the same tracks that parallel Airline through the AP. No reason there couldn't be local trains that stop at Highland Rd. by Blue Bayou, in Prairieville, in Gonzalez, and other spots closer to NOLA in addition to express trains that go BR to NOLA non-stop.

I agree completely with what you're saying. However I'm wishing it were connected in LP or South BR. Highland Road's current traffic issues would be compounded in a major way during morning & afternoon rush by a terminal being placed there. I'd also imagine the environmental impact studies in what is a generally fairly low-lying area near there would make it difficult.

Again though my interest would be to somehow enable LP to utilize the concept and not just EBR/AP.

Consider this a first step. BR/NOLA is the first line that would be put in with stops in Mid City BR, Hospital District, Blue Bayou, Gonzales, LaPlace, MSY, Zephyr, and the NOLA CBD.

In the future, this line could extend from NOLA out to Biloxi and beyond heading east or link Houston and the Texas Triangle in the West. There could even be an eventual line from BR to Hammond and from Hammond to NOLA by way of the tracks along I-55.

Just see this as the first step.

If I had to guess, the portion between MSY and NOLA CBD will see plenty of traffic, but the stations in BR will not.

To make the BR train system work, there has to be a streetcar line connecting the commuter train to the downtown/LSU streetcar, and an extension of either line to take passengers to BTR. Such a line to BTR could easily add a stop or shuttle to Southern.

Or an abundance of ride share cars, which already exists.

Well, the same line that would stop in Mid-City continues North and forks going over the old bridge to the West and then right by Southern and up Hwy. 61. Would be pretty easy to tie in Exxon, Southern, then an extension to BTR. And if you really want, from BTR bring it back West and pick up the rail line that parallels 19 and hit Baker and Zachary.

It's not going to be free... make it cash-free plastic only as well and that will reduce this a lot.

Nah, it's for the safety of the conductors. No cash on hand makes them a lesser target for theft.
