On a scale of 1 to 10, is this a "difficult" major?
What are the math requirements?
Is it a competitive major to get into as a freshman?

I don’t know what’s it like now, but twenty years ago it was the major for a lot of students that couldnt make it in engineering. I was mechanical for 3 years and then finished school with a cm degree.

Should be easier now that a minor in Spanish is no longer required.

that’s what it was considered when I was at LSU, in the 70s

You take math and physics, statics and such. Just not the same ones as engineers and not nearly as hard.

when I was at LSU the Bidness Administration degree even had a little baby calculus course or two in the curriculum

2 physics classes and Calculus. The physics classes were graded on a 20 pt scale instead of 10 point strictly for CM majors. They didn't cut any slack on calculus though. I took it 3x. Always had a foreigner that was very hard to understand. Biggest mistake was taking it over the summer the first time where we covered a weeks worth of material every class. 0/10 would never recommend

That's how I remember it as well. I had a few friends go that route and they are all doing quite well now in their careers in construction or engineering.

10. I know a lot of people who couldn’t cut it and had to switch to engineering

It’s a good degree to make damn good money

At ULM you take several engineering math classes and they’re difficult if you aren’t good at math.

If you're talking about LSU, I would give it like a 3-4. I wasn't very good at Physics, but besides that I thought the rest wasn't too bad. Especially with the good teachers in the department who truly work with you to help you pass/succeed.

I know the flowchart changed (I think in 2015) so I'm not completely familiar with it, but I took two maths in the program (Math 1550 Calc 1 and Math 1552 Calc 2). And they made you take a couple physics, accounting classes, a finance, couple structures classes that involved math/physics, and of course estimating classes. Again besides physics, the rest were easy for me. I was thankfully good at Calculus.

Not really. I was able to switch to it my sophomore year pretty easy. I would imagine it's still pretty easy to get into, even though LSU really has one of the better programs for it, assuming LSU was what you were looking at. I do recommend it.
Also yes it isn't as hard as an engineering major, but I had many friends struggle mightily going through it it too so I can't say that it's an easy major for some people.

I have several friends that did this. All did well. One owns a high end swimming pool construction com in Dallas.

I didn’t know jack about college when it was time to go, my dad, who was a general contractor, picked a major for me, civil engineering, thanks dad, when I got to LSU I saw cm in the catalogue and it looked like a lot less work, I brought that up with him and he said I can teach you all of that, you need an engineering degree so you can put your stamp on projects

And you got an engineering degree?

yeah, and I’ve never drawn a line in anger

You're dad was right! My parents wanted me to be a doc, but naw, I struggled too much with organic chem and stayed being a Med Tech. Worked out pretty well.

I was PETE before switching, so compared to that being a 10, I’d say around a 5 or a 6. I had already taken all of the engineering math and physics, so I can’t comment on those

I never considered myself a great student, I had to work my arse off in a lot of those courses, I always knew I wanted to fly but I guess my dad thought that was just me being a kid and assumed I would work with him after school, but when he saw I was serious about it he said go for it and was my biggest supporter
