That’s bullshite. You don’t know who illegals are. Any documents some might have are fake or stolen.
What else can I do other than run a background check on the guy I’m interviewing/potentially hiring? Passes a background check, has an LLC, licensed with the state, insured. That’s 4 more things I require than most any other contractor, who normally just hire the cheapest crew possible and just give them an address and say go, without any management.

you seem to be more interested in presenting problems with illegal immigration reform as opposed to finding a solution everyone (Americans) can agree to.
you could present an additional 10 more problems, i still want to deport all of them, reform immigration, and start fresh.

I always find it funny in threads like this and IRL conversations yall act like illegals specifically Hispanic ones come here with some sort of advanced construction knowledge that is irreplaceable and impossible for American workers to grasp

I'm in the construction industry and most.... 95% of the crews are legal workers. But there are a few illegals here and there. GCs always have in their sub contracts that crews have to be legal but they can't check every sub out there. The raids are really about harassing legal Hispanic workers. And if I was a green card worker in this environment, I'm not gonna work a whole lot. It's not worth being held for a couple of days while Clarence checks my creditials . And that's what this is really about, harrasing legal but foreign workers. That's fine but you can't replace these guys with American born workers, they don't exist. Prices will go up do to the labor shortage.

Can’t speak for anybody else, but it wouldn’t change my price to the customer because I’m not hiring a Mexican roofing crew because they are cheap. They’re not. And 90% of our roofs are insurance work where insurance companies/xactimate set the cost.
I will say in other trades like tile, painting, and framing, you 100% can hire cheaper Mexican labor if you wanted. Because they will undercut white people. They don’t have to do that in roofing because they are the only ones willing to do the job.
More than anything for now, what is going to add cost to the homeowner is tariffs. Not trying to argue whether they are good or bad but for the time being, building costs are going to skyrocket. We just got an email from one of our suppliers yesterday that bc of tariffs prices are going up 5% immediately and they expect up to 38% increase soon. That price does have to be passed on.

On sites I work there are 100 people a day and who those people are changes daily. The illegals are doing shite work, pulling concrete forms, cleaning up after framing. I'm all for getting those guys shipped out. But ICE is grabbing everyone and totally stopping work. Fine but now we have to stop work and negotiate with legal and citizens to come back to work.
