Saturday mornings in the 1970s was such an awesome time to be a kid.

True story. I’m 42 and I remember the preamble to the constitution specifically because of School House Rock.

Truth.

When our first child was born in the late 1990s, we bought:

1. A globe
2. A US state map jigsaw puzzle
3. The entire Schoolhouse Rock collection on VHS.

She (and her little sister) have done well...

Jack Sheldon, a really neat cat.

Was a singer, jazz trumpeter and actor. Big part of the West Coast Jazz movement in the 1950s. He was a longtime fixture on The Merv Griffin Show as the bandleader and singer, sort of the way Doc Severinsen was to Johnny Carson.

Here's a funny little video of him talking about his experiences as a jazzman:

He was also an actor, starring in a lot of 1960s TV shows, including one in which he was the main character, Run, Buddy, Run. I remember him from around The Schoolhouse Rock days on the Sally Field/ John Davidson show The Girl With Something Extra.

Lived to be 88 years old, died of natural causes in 2019.
